Flashback: when the Pats danced on the Chargers logo and made Tomlinson cry about it

I can't be bothered to look up why the Pats did this, but didn't the Chargers start it by doing this to somebody else, and/or the Chargers celebrated after every sack, or something? These days the Pats are portrayed as having "started it," but I remember it was a reaction to something the Chargers did first.

They were extremely arrogant before the game and just a ****y team in general. A lot of them were talking trash saying our dynasty was over (Vrabel commented on that) and Merriman in particular thumped his chest at a pre game pep rally bragging that he was going to punch Tom Brady in the face or something like that.

They had it coming imo.

Ahh yes, the Merriman sack dance. That's what started it...Then they cried like babies when they got a taste of their own medicine.

I could be wrong but I think the Pats did start it. I don’t know if it was Reche Caldwell who started it but I know he was involved and was a former Charger. To be fair Merriman’s “Lights Out” dance was stupid.

They absolutely had it coming. Bunch o punks.

One of the greatest post-season wins in team history.

On top of that, I think the Pats were still peeved at the Chargers running their mouths when they beat the Pats in the 2005 regular season game -- I think the dynasty being over comments stemmed from that postgame, not specifically prior to the 2006 game.
Oct. 2, 2005: Chargers 41, Patriots 17

Anybody know where the complete game is? I've looked on youtube (maybe not good enough?)

I didn't like it at the time. I don't care who or what started it.

I also didn't like the Pats mocking the Jete flying routine after the regular season 45-3 rout in 2010 either. That one came back to bite them big time in the playoffs.

"We physical, They Finesse!" - Ladanian Tomlinson on the field after the 2005 game here.

Screaming like they one the Super Bowl - In Foxboro - All over the logo.

(from the previous story posted)The sideshow: Walking off the field after the game, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips yelled to no one in particular, “That's an (rear end)-whippin' right there.” Cornerback Drayton Florence poured gasoline on the fire by adding, “(Expletive) New England and their team. Get the look of shock off your faces. We beat your (rear end).” Those quotes weren't widely reported at the time, but the Patriots would recall them 15 months later.

I really don't care if we started it or not. I hope we did start because I think it is funny. It is a game and anyone that takes things too seriously are easy targets.

I am the opposite of a sore loser. I don't care if I lose a game etc, but I love rubbing it in when I am winning. My mindset has always been that you have to just take it if you lose and consider it more of an incentive to win.

We were different back then. Nowadays, I think we show too much respect for other teams, especially when the other team trash talks us all week leading up to the game.

Other teams aren't dumb enough to celebrate on the Gillette field, anymore, either.

Painful

I was just reading a Pats thread on the Chargers forum and half of the posters mentioned the disrespectful Patriots trashing their logo and called the game a redemption tour. We should have Wilfork and Colvin on the sidelines as an honorary team captains.
