Raiders Hire Mike Mayock as GM

Why not give his position some type of personnel designation rather than calling him a GM? Oh wait, it's the Raiders we're talking about so there's no need for anything to make sense.

He should be the Chief Scout or have a title similar to Nick Caserio's. I wonder how Gruden feels? And who makes the final decisions on personnel matters?

He had such a sweet gig, why? Why subject yourself to the hours the scrutiny and the **** show that is the Raiders?

I remember when Mayock was Belichickd useful idiot when Bill the gm was trying to pump up Mallet for trade value..."Ryan Mallett popped" was the Mayock sound bite 98.5 kept playing...

Wow, Mayock knows all the college players so it'll help their drafting, but him and Gruden on the same page?

Don't take it the wrong way but every pro team has a college scouting department. Mayock is to the draft as Bill Nye is to science. A pop culture figurehead.

What about it makes you like it ?

He's been one of the better draft analysts to date and has been consistently good at it going all the way back to '04. Belichick also has a lot of respect for him. Doing what he's doing now and helping Gruden pick the groceries are not all that different. Whether he'll actually be a good one, going forward, is another topic. This is his first time in that position, IIRC. But his qualifications for the job are fine.

Yeah, I know. Every team is scouting college players year round, but Mayock would add a lot of insight to the Raiders scouting team, which frankly has not been very good. If I were a Raiders fan, I would be comfortable with him running my team's draft. My question about him has more to do with other areas where he would be responsible for such as salary cap management, trades, etc.

Gruden.

I'm a big Mayock fan. Zero NFL FO experience but morons like Tannenbaum keep getting jobs so what the hell.

Unlike Moneyball DePodesta at least he knows the personnel and has played football

It’s a unicorn job that pays extremely well and you live in California. If you’re fired, you are paid off and he can come back to scouting and broadcasting. What’s not to like?

Isn’t this basically like the 49ers hiring John Lynch? Mayock was a former player too. Don’t forget that.

At first I didn't like it, but the Raiders have a **** ton of picks for next year, so getting a guy who is good at this part of the job is kinda of a great fit.

Still, I think Gruden is a horrible HC and thus it's all going to be moot
