This is ****ty news and, like others, I wish Gordon the best in his life, thank him for the games he did give the team, and now hope for the best as we head towards an uninspiring playoff berth and the lowest playoff expectation bar NE has had since they won 36. Since Gordon wasn’t any part of the preseason team plan and I wish they’d just paid Dola instead of whatever they were doing with the WR corps, I don’t consider it as much of a body blow as losing Edelman last year or Gronk in 2016, both of which wound up in SB appearances anyway. There were other significant roster and performance differences that made that possible the past 2 years, of course, and I’m not sure how to reconcile the inconsistent execution and performance of this team with that. Nonetheless, I have a not completely baseless optimism that they will somehow find that less is more, figure it the **** out, and end up in the AFCCG again, and from there, who knows? Of all the randomness this season has presented what could be more random than this team falling ass-backwards into the SB and finally winning the game in a fashion that doesn’t give all of us a stroke? Unlikely perhaps, but that’s why they play the games.

This is true. But...

I’m not sure I like subscribing to this school of thought. If you think like this, you’ll be left feeling like the Patriots “failed” when Brady retired, so long as it isn’t right after a SB victory.

Think about the time between 04 and 14. I (along with many others) really wanted one more before Brady retired, especially once it got around 2010-2014 and his old age was on the horizon. Then we got that one, and it was incredible. I was satisfied.

Then deflate gate and all the BS happened, and we NEEDED one more. The loss in the afccg in Denver hurt a ton. And then... SB51. The 5th ring. Brady cemented as goat.

And after that, I said they had done everything I could ask. There was no need to be greedy.

I am totally rooting for them. I still want them to win really really bad. But after 5 SBs, making it back to another one with a 40 year old ah was a good accomplishment. Another year of winning this year is a good season. I would love a great playoff run (and a ring), but I won’t treat it as a failure if it doesn’t happen. I don’t want to be left with that feeling.

As long as I feel they've put together a worthy team, I'll have no issues. But we knew about big problems last year, and we knew about big problems this year, and we saw them not getting adequately addressed, when there were plenty of ways to do so. Another year of winning this year is a good season. I would love a great playoff run (and a ring), but I won’t treat it as a failure if it doesn’t happen. I don’t want to be left with that feeling.

And I don't want to be left with the feeling that they needlessly pissed away opportunities. So we seem to have two fundamentally different approaches here.

Yeah, it’s fair to feel that way. And I’ll definitely feel some frustration (I have).

However, after so many years of being spoiled, I don’t want to allow myself to feel unsatisfied after the best run in nfl history.

Also, I don’t want to miss out on enjoying brady’s last years. Even with a season that’s been less successful than we would’ve hoped/expected, it’s been a gift watching Brady. As it always is. For most of my life, I won’t be able to watch him anymore. I don’t want to just feel that a season like this was a pure failure. We’ve still gotten to watch the goat lead our team to another division title, and likely an 11 win season. And maybe more.

Everyday is a fight. Sometimes I lose that fight. I don't see it as immaturity. I can sorta relate to Gordon, however hes way worse off than me.

Well to be fair, brady has done what's never been done before. Plenty of times. This isn't Aaron Rodgers' career. The achievements have been plentiful.

I'm frustrated when things like that happen. I really really wanted another ring. But I won't let that stop me from enjoying the ride because we missed a chance for the SIXTH ring of the era.

Like you said, different approach. Probably many of the same feelings, but I'm trying to maintain a grateful perspective so I don't come away from a historically dominant era with a feeling of failure. Either approach is fair, imo. I get what you're saying.

I think there are connections. I definitely didn't choose having OCD and Gordon chose to start doing drugs so I believe in that case you are spot on. However, im not sure how much control he actually has. He appears mentally ill to me.

This is devastating. His 700 yards were certainly productive but I still thought he had the capability to do more. His body type was that of a perfect wide receiver (ok, maybe Calvin Johnson was), but with his build and great hands I thought he had the opportunity to be a red zone beast (which would have been a much needed boost with Gronk's struggles).

I still think the risk was worth it though. After all, I think it's safe to say he at least added 1 more W to our win column. If we're sitting this weekend with a 8-6 record we're not feeling very good.

Just found out that Gordon's stunning girl friend Dylan Gonzalez broke up with him on Wednesday for cheating on her. This happened the day before his tweet.
Why didn't the Pats see this coming? The league did. Who cares other than the Pats offense.

I think it's tough to argue that Dorsett's snap count should have been higher, simply because he had ample opportunity to earn a larger role and didn't seize it. At the end of the day, you've gotta play the guys who give you the best chance to win, and for as long as Gordon was around that wasn't Dorsett. To the extent that it now is, that's more an indication of how desperate the Pats are and how weak the WR corps is than any real merit on Dorsett's part, and I find it hard to believe that Dorsett would be in a significantly better position to replace Gordon if he was getting more snaps from weeks 6 onward.

I can understand trading him for the first rounder, but I would’ve liked to have seen them take a shot at replacing some of that production on the cheap by selecting another WR in the earlier rounds.

Personally, I didn’t like the Dawson pick then, and I’m beginning to hate it more and more as time moves forward.

Yeah. I was thinking the Pats might take WR/PR Dante Pettis in the 2nd with the JimmyG pick (#43). Instead, they traded it to DET (who took Kerryon Johnson, another one of my binkys). And then, coincidentally, the Niners took Pettis at #44.

Two of my binkys - within the Pats' grasp - gone elsewhere in two consecutive picks. Wasn't a good moment for me.
