You give up 50 points to a 4-5 win team, can't stop the run or pass (from a QB in his first start), can't run the ball, can't throw the ball because your QB is running for his life, can't punt, because you can't cover the returns, can't kickoff, because you can't cover the returns, and can't make chipshot field goals.
That's not 'knee jerk'.
That is the definition of a fundamental collapse in all three phases. The Lions have done nothing well, nothing. A moment here and there (the pick 6, one of the throws to Golliday they protected all right), but outside of that, it's just non-execution.
And it's not the players. This team went 9-7 last year, just missing the playoffs, with a lot of the same players returning. They shouldn't be getting rolled like this, at home, to a top-5, top-10-in-the-draft team, with a rookie QB in his first start.
It's a non-competitive effort. There's one person who's responsible for making sure the team is prepared and competitive. That's the head coach.
