My wife and I spend the month of March in Ft. Myers Beach with loads of mid-westerners, most of whom despise BB and the Pats. But, for some of them there's a special hatred for Ernie, which makes me laugh my ass off. One evangelical guy actually told me (dead sober) that he believes Ernie is the devil. I agreed with him...the dumb pr###...:)

There’s legitimately a lot of people that make Adams about to be some boogeyman mastermind whose secretly responsible for ALL the success and is secretly plotting every nefarious thing we get accused of. It’s a weird psychological thing. He’s this important guy whose behind the curtain that nobody can quite define so he’s the Blofeld/Dr. Evil

Adams is a Northwestern alum. And Ernie was born in Waltham!

OT: My wife and daughter recently visited the Market Basket in Waltham.

Their review: Impressive, large, clean.

Ernie is awesome, don't want to take a thing away from him.

But I think it's also worth mentioning Belichick's part in all of this. Many organizations have really smart people who want to contribute. Belichick encourages it and doesn't feel threatened by it. He wants people to challenge him if they feel he's wrong. Not all leaders do. Many football coaches especially want "yes" men to surround them.

One of Ernie's roles seems to be the "red team," to constantly interrogate and challenge BB's ideas and gameplans. Think about that for a second. BB keeps a guy on staff to constantly challenge what he thinks. How many leaders are secure enough to do that?
Ernie and Bill were classmates in prep school.

Once, soon after BB took over the Browns, Art Modell saw Ernie at practice and asked Bill, "Who is that guy? What exactly does he do?"

From a Northwestern U publication, they herald on of their alumni... a lot stuff we know from the Halberstam book, but a refresher for some of us..

Been to TC twice this year, and noted Ernie more involved on the field than previously noted, he seems to be a very keen observer of what is going on..

Because this is the Patriots, that is true.

If we were anybody else, Ernie would be the wonderful, beloved, wise old sage whose guidance has achieved the American Dream.

Just like Tom Brady would be bigger than Elvis.

And Bill Belichick would be Burl Ives.

I'm surprised you were able to say anything positive about anything with the name Elvis in it.

Yikes, Orthwein, Tagliabue, Goodell and the God-awful NFL are not the King's fault!

OK don't say anything, but I heard him say the other day, "Well, say, it's flatterin' and all that they like me up there in Boston; I liked singing there but, I like tradition, you know? I mean, they don't play in Memphis or anything...I'd a gone to see President Clinton about it at the time, but, you know, I don't want to blow my cover..."

Has anyone ever seen John Bolton and Ernie Adams together in the same place?

Didn’t you say that anyone that is against the Flying Elvis deserves to die a traitor’s death? Then burn Pat Patriot.

Bah. Best shot I could find.

That's him in ****tail.

First time I saw and listened to Ernie Adams, I thought "Holy ****!! That's that raging A Hole who gave Tom Cruise an F in his Finance Class in "****tail!!"

Ernie and Bill were classmates in prep school.

Once, soon after BB took over the Browns, Art Modell saw Ernie at practice and asked Bill, "Who is that guy? What exactly does he do?"

I love that bit. The Boston Globe's story had this as the quote:

"I'll pay anyone here $10,000 if they can tell me what Ernie Adams does."

Adams's role with Patriots is top secret - The Boston Globe

And yes, they were classmates, but most coaches end up hiring people they know personally due to trust. They want people around them that they can trust, and BB absolutely trusts him. But he also trusts Ernie to challenge him, and that's something most coaches don't do, even with those closest to them.
