What is amazing is how you can claim to be a fan of the team with the greatest qb of all time who has made your team more successful than any other in history and you waste your time *****ing about him on a message board. What in the world would lead you to hate the guy who made your favorite team the greatest dynasty ever?
AJ have you had any criticisms of Bill Belichick?? How about Robert Kraft?? How about Adam Vinatieri?? The 3 gentlemen I named above are just as responsible for the dynasty that is the New England Patriots as Brady is. Have you ever been critical of any of them at any moment?? Sure you have. So why are you so whiney and protective when it comes to Brady and why can't you call him out when he acts like a selfish diva?? Fans like you who have this blind sycophant mentality is what gives Patriot fans such a bad reputation for being shallow pinkhats. Yeah I hate Brady so much I've called him the greatest QB ever. But see when you are the greatest QB of all-time I expect you to do more in the 1st half of the Super Bowl with over 300 yds of total offense than score 1 freakin' TD. I don't get blinded by the stats, I actually watch the games and give my opinion.
Don't sit there and blow smoke telling us for years how important OTA's are, how it's all about team and then when the QB of the future is traded away and you've got issues with the coach and have all the leverage with Garappolo gone suddenly you don't show up.
If Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers ever acted this way they would be mocked and ridiculed on this board and rightfully so.
Just be consistent, don't be a double talking fraud like Brady is.

You're a one troll soap opera.

The OTAs are going to vary in importance depending on who you are.

Reasons the OTAs are important:

New faces and rookies -

  • Get acclimated to how the Patriots run their workouts.
  • Get acclimated to Belichick's coaching style.
  • Get acclimated to the coaching styles of their various coordinators.

Guys that have been in the system for years -
  • Players coming off of injury: getting back on the practice field and start training early.
  • Outside of that, nothing of note that they can't get in MC or TC.

That's basically all there is to it. Brady is 41. Brady has been in the system for 18 years. Brady is coming off of two long seasons, the most recent of which saw him absorb an inordinate amount of hits. The new receivers are not missing anything not having Brady there. There are no pads. There is no contact. The pitch and catch sessions can take place with Hoyer as the QB as the new guys learn the routes. The majority of the playbook will not be installed in May. The majority of the playbook gets installed in MC and, particularly, TC. Those two events will be the first time the players wear shells or are fully padded. Those two events will be the events in which the timing really gets down between quarterback and receivers.

So those of you getting bent out of shape about this are getting bent out of shape just for the sake of doing so. Moreover, all of you have very good company. ESPN and the local media having a field day with this. That's great company to be in. Congratulations.
Kontra you are one of my top 5 fav posters and normally we see eye to eye on almost every issue. On this you are dead wrong and it's basic human nature. I want you to think of any middle management type people you have worked with. Who were the ones you liked working with, the crack the whip my way or the highway who "delagated" everything cuz I am the boss types? Or the ones who got down and dirty with you and SHOWED you how it was done? Brady and Gronk are the middle management of the offense and I know if I was a rookie or new to the system player I would be like who are these douche nozzles that think they are above sweating with us as we run gassers. Yeah it's May and the likelihood of two vets missing anything important to gameplans and such is miniscule but from a team building chemistry standpoint they are IMO missing a ton. I suppose part of me would be like umm those two are the GOATs so I guess they don't need this but the bigger part would be asking didn't they become the GOATs by out working people? WTF? It's just so out of character from both of them I think the people scratching their heads and asking what is going on is totally justified.

Sorry, I don't have time to read what's been written prior, but here is my quick 2 cents.

Here's the ONLY thing I'm pissed at Brady for, his silence. If he pissed at Bellichick, say so and explain why. If he's pissed about his contract, SAY SO, and explain why. If there is another reason for him to be away, then SAY so, and explain why.

All this passive-aggressive silence sh!t is starting to rub me the wrong way.

BTW- As far as actual football goes, it means VERY little in the great scheme of thing. Brady will literally throw thousands of practice balls to his receivers BEFORE they ever set foot on a field for a real game. I hope to god I don't ever hear some mediot say in September that the pass Brady just missed would have been accurate if he'd had come to the voluntary OTA's back in May.

Now it would be better if he had come, no doubt. But more on a bonding and team building angle, not playing the actual game.

Appreciate the compliment. But they're really not. Not anything that can't be gained in MC and TC, anyway.

I rest my case.

You think Adam Vinatieri is as responsible for the dynasty as Tom Brady. We need not say anything else.

Why should Brady have to say anything at all? Fans are not entitled to know why Brady decided to be away from voluntary OTAS. It could be for family reasons or maybe he’s nursing an injury (ie., his thumb could still be bothering him from the AFCCG). I assume he told Belichick why and BB looked perfectly happy yesterday. As fans, we should not be second-guessing Brady for something like this since he’s been playing for 18 years and he delivered us 5 titles in the process. He knows what it takes to win championships. End of Story. Period.

Be honest Kontra, you are out on the field running gassers. Your tired, sweating, and sore. You wouldn't be looking around going why aren't the leaders of my offense here working too? Its that mindset of we all work, harder then anyone else, that they will never be able to get back and it's so different from what we normally hear about Brady. Hardest working guy on the field, stays late to work on the little ****, perfectionist who never takes a rep off. I have no inside source and this could be much ado about nothing but I know I am concerned at such a massive swing in behavior and what it could imply about the locker room. Brady/Gronk are still the GOATs and there is nobody I would want on my team before them but this behavior comes off as selfish, childish, and they should be there, simply for team building and chemistry as leaders of the offense.

I'm not sure if anyone has speculated this or not but it seems kind of likely to me that Brady, the Krafts, and perhaps the coaches are communicating and are accepting if not agreeing with what's going on....and they're passing it in to the team.

Wish this post was sticky on top of the thread.
Ha. I refuse to get caught up in the churn of this issue. I wish Tom was in camp and went with the program for the sake of harmony but the fact he isn't will not have an impact on wins and losses.

That's what really matters.

If we do well, it's not a problem

If we don't, well

It’s the era. People feel they are entitled to know every detail and their lofty position as someone who likes the team should give them unfettered access to have any question they can think of answered. How dare Tom Brady do anything without the approval of me when I like the patriots. I have a right to know why he is doing what he is doing because I have a job or talking about him on message boards.

The quality I’ve loved about Brady is that he’s never acted or spoken like he’s great. No one likes someone that’s great at something and acts above the crowd

I still love brady but I don’t like the way he’s acting. Humility is the greatest quality anyone can have

Why? Because from 'brand' and controversy vs harmony standpoints it's the smart play. If his absence is about pacing or life balance/appeasing his spouse then it would behoove him to end the speculation that has to be a distraction to his teammates and damaging to his brand but if it is contract or environment related there is no W in discussing it for either side.

You rest my case. How different things would be if no tuck rule call and no Adam Vinatieri in the Snowbowl. And let's not even talk about those game winning kicks in the SB's.
The fact that you so easily dismiss a MAJOR contributor in 3 out of the 5 championships makes MY point about shallow Patriot pinkhats. Thank you!!!
