Adam Schefter: Brady not yet committed to playing in 2018

I don’t think toms going anywhere yet. There’s a couple reasons. Peyton’s passing record and one more ring at least.

Not sure he cares about the passing or TD records. Maybe he does? SBs absolutely.

Y'know what I wonder.....I believe Tom has mastered the game and is looking around for bigger challenges and hes having a hard time finding one.

Improving his game and winning Super Bowls are no doubt still important to him but where do they rank in his life now?

Now with key players leaving, being benched and his coach being a pain in the ass about Guerrero maybe he is wondering if it'll be worth it.

That was exactly how Troy Aikman retired. It wasn't concussions. It was the coach, the BS and the way the team was doing which was downhill.

If the unthinkable happens and he does retire then I think we will know something messed up is going on and it’s not that he suddenly decided to just spend time with the family. I’ll never believe that

Agree.

I will be the first to admit, our key leaders aren't the happiest this off season

Though I'd like to remind everyone: this is sports journalism. It's the off season. These journalists resort to the most extreme speculation. Every day they need a new headline.

Nobody knows what's going on, period. Everything is attributed to "close sources" and that's it. Keep your head level, and just wait.
With all due respect, I believe you're engaged in wishful thinking.

The Pats need an answer on Brady’s actual timeline ASAP (whether it’s 1 year left or 3+). This QB class is the deepest since 2004 & we have the ammo to get a sliding Rosen. The 2019 QB class is a mess.
I don't understand this. Not doing voluntary OTAs is one thing, but when the hell did Brady's playing status for this coming season suddenly come into question?

The charm about 1st round QBs is that they have the tools to start soon. We dont need that. We need a developmental guy who has qualities that can be built upon for 2 years (or 1 if you're unsure). We don't need a 1st round QB.

Brady posted a picture on Facebook of his family petting a camel in the Middle East desert today. Did he take a second to talk to US football reporters about his playing future somehow?

Ineresting Meta analysis out of that Florio piece:

"The non-story story prompted Jimmy Traina of SI.com to make this observation: “Here’s why athletes hate the media. ESPN blasts out a story saying Tom Brady hasn’t committed to playing in 2018. Story quotes two ‘sources.’ Both say Brady will play. Not one quote in the story says he may not play.”"

ESPN really should be run out of New England. Still, the worldwide leader in disgraceful coverage of sports.

They are pretty bad. This story is kind of dumb really. Everyone close to Tom has said he’s playing in 2018 but because he haven’t said to a reporter that he’s defenitely thinking of retiring?? Lol brilliant extrapolation

Interesting analogy... so........ how did things work out for Edmonton after Gretzky left?

The squeezed out one more cup and then it went south.... same as it does for every dynasty.. not perfect but life goes on... in my heart I still live vicariously through their triumphs from over 30+ years ago.

The Patriots will be no different. The real world is coming, time to embrace change.

Thats why I think this came from BB or the Krafts with the purpose of having Tom be at OTAs and not from Tom or his remoras

This will get quashed in a hurry.

Does any player under contract ever come out to the media and say “I’m committed to playing next year?” Gimme a break.

Tom's playing. Any time talk of retirement has come up it was always as a question to Brady to which he responded.

If it's true that Kraft forced Bill's hand with Garoppolo then this is a great example of the type of problem that can come with an owner meddling with the football operation.

A quick thought on the idea that Brady doesn't spend enough time with his family. I'd be willing to bet that I spent far more time away from my family in my 43 years of working than Tom ever has or ever will.

When Brady retires he will not owe anyone any explanation, just as the team wouldn't give him one if his skills fell off or he got injured and they dumped him. That's a two way street.

There was some suggestion that BB or the Krafts are behind this story to light a fire under Brady. I have one word for that. Poppycock.

I think the BrINT Favre comparisons are unfair. He was the one waffling about retiring. Brady never has.

Brady is as loyal to BB as he is to Kraft. Respecting authority is in his DNA.

I don't think anyone seriously thinks Brady is not going to play in 2018. And as Florio notes, the very stories reporting it say everyone expects him to play.

What this is all about (to the extent Brady has in actuality said this to anyone) is sending messages. I think this, the end of Tom vs Time, etc. have to be viewed as parts of a bigger whole.

While Curran's remark about Brady wanting this all to be interpreted as "Bill or me" is probably (hopefully?) going too far, I think Curran is right about the general concept of what this is all about.

That would make sense. Now, the longer he stays away, the louder the shrieking will become

so every player under contract has to confirm to the team each year that they intend to play?
Sounds like media doing what they do best.

I’ll say this. Draft day may have a few speed bumps .

When you don't put the best players on the field, and have your most consistent CB on the bench for the entire game, it's hard NOT to think that he threw the game. That's basically the definition of throwing a game.
Or he was arrogant, stupid, hard ass or whatever. Throwing a game is a serious accusation.

Not surprisingly, this thread is ridiculous to the point of farce. Have fun with it, though, ladies and gentlemen!

So why is Brady being a whinny little B!tch now?? First you wanted to play until you can't anymore and now you don't know?? I wish they had held onto Jimmy for at least a another year no matter the cost we would have had leverage! against $h1t like this.
