Differences in big boards

If you look at all of the big boards, there is a huge discrepancy between them. For example, Mason Rudolph, he is ranked from Lower 1st round to 3rd round. What big boards do you use?

It used to be CBS but they have a different format this year and it doesn’t seem to have been updated much. NFL.com for me now.

I found a great composite spreadsheet that compared all the big boards and showed average rankings as well as standard deviation, but it looks like the Google document is now private. Useful tool. At this point I'm almost done with my own big board, based on the limited information available about players. I don't have very many draftable grades usually. 50 - 75 in total. I've tried to go by starter, rotational player with starter upside, career backup, etc, rather than draft round designation.

After killing the on-field drills and one on one matchups in practice during the Senior Bowl, Reaves had an even better game while in Mobile. He is always around the ball, has a NFL-ready man coverage skill set, and is a reliable run defender close to the LOS. Size will push him down the board, but he deserves to be drafted early on Day 3. Tony Adams was a big Combine snub, but he showed why he has the talent to make a roster and contribute in a depth role before competing for starter snaps with his performance in the East-West Shrine game. Comparison: Jonathan Cooper

Not that testing numbers are everything, but Mason and Cooper were strong, explosive players who excelled athletically despite short stature. Adams . . . well . . .

I’ve seen offensive linemen that looked light on their feet do surprisingly poorly on testing in the past.

Totally agree with you (I still like Orlando Brown, for example), so I went back to watch some of his games, and he has some pretty decent strength in short areas. He struggles with reach blocks, as expected with his length, and although he could pull to the opposite gap, if he had to go past the formation, his lack of foot speed started to show up a bit. He's not as lethargic as I had first worried, but he does have some limitations and would need to be in the right scheme. A move to center might be best for him. I don't think that he would be an upgrade to any of our backups along the IOL, however.

He's definitely got some off-the-beaten-track ideas. Marcus Allen in the 1st? It's a fun board to review, and challenges some of my conceptions. I'm almost positive that about half a dozen missing players will go in the 1st anyway, and that some of the people he has listed won't go until mid-2nd. I appreciate effort that goes into these things!

Edit: Why would anyone draft a receiver in the 1st based on this board? Way more value in the 2nd. Ditto running back and offensive tackle. Things to ponder . . .

Yeah the way he has his big board arranged, we could have a pretty good selection of LBs/Edge rushers to choose from if we don't trade our 1st round picks.

If we keep the the #31 pick, we could possibly have our choice in TEs if we have them rated highly.

Warm's my heart to see Saquon Barkley at the top of most boards. But, Marcus Allen
isn't a safety in today's NFL. Over 40 starts and one pic. He's a liability in pass defense.
Would have been awesome in the 80's and 90's.

As I scroll down through these big boards, the appearance of the names of prospects who I've thought would fit well with the Patriots seems to increase in frequency.

Maybe I'm just odd.

I really like some of the prospects in that 1-2 range: Lorenzo Carter, Justin Reid, Ronnie Harrison, Michel and Guice and even Anthony Miller and Rasheem Green. I kinda hope BB doesn’t use 31 or 43 to trade up from 23 with some caveats (Rosen, Roquan. Derwin).
