If Tom is really serious about a few more years, wouldn't it be nice to have the 5th year option? Or are most of you not buying Brady playing at 45?

Regardless of when you feel Brady is going to go, if you see a talent at quarterback that you like, you get him. Quarterback is a position that if you see someone you like, you take, regardless of your current situation. Good quarterbacks are not only the best insurance, but they are also worth A LOT of draft capital. The real question is do they have a qb that they’ve graded as a first rd talent that might fall to them? Unlikely.

Pretty much what I came here to say. You don't take a QB you don't really believe in, just to take a QB in the first round, regardless of Brady's plans.

What QBs do you guys like that'll be available for us around 1st and 2nd?

I clicked on the thread to vote 'Hell No' but yeah...Ray Lewis killed a guy

The fifth year only matters if the Pats expect Brady to play exactly four more seasons. If they expect Brady to play longer, then they'll have a repeat of the Garoppolo situation; if they expect Brady to retire before then, the Pats will be able to see how the new guy does for a full season before making a final decision.

I think Tom will do one more year. I voted no, because who's gonna be there at 31? If we traded the whole draft, we still couldn't get up there to get Josh Allen or whoever else that might be there at 5-7.

Not after seeing the end of Tom vs time. I did believe it till then
Me too. I'd like to have the Jimmy G trade over. But with our cap situation, I dunno how we sign him. Lauetta better be there at 63 or 95. He seems to be the guy that they all talk about. Of course, BB never picks what everyone says they are gonna pick.

Given BB's track record as the QB whispherer, I am pretty sure the league has a rule against him selecting a QB in the 1st round.

It doesn’t have to be a first rounder, but the team needs to be scouting for the future at the position. Brady is 41, I highly doubt he’s playing to 45, and even if he does, he could fall off at any time. The team at least recognized that fact and took a wait and see approach before trading JAG, so it’s hard to fathom them not having plans at the position as we speak.

I would be Tempted by Mason Rudolph he kinda reminds me of Bledsoe his deep ball just hangs but he looks like a player. That said they are some developmental types and I would double dip just for fun: the guy or guys we pick would sit for at-least two years hopefully. That would enable them to hone their skills.

Another thought, that fifth year could be a real bargain not having to pay a star QB salary of 20+ on a new deal. Even if Brady isn’t around. That’s not to say we have to reach for somebody, but I’d think Bill definitely would keep it in mind.

no. At this point any qb that falls to 31 will probably still be there in round 2.

The patriots would be better off tanking for a season like the colts and getting a blue chipper high in the draft then to waste a first rounder on a late first round qb

If you want to keep Jimmy, you have to get rid of Brady. Jimmy is not signing to be a backup and the franchise tag destroys our cap.

It just comes down to whether a QB prospect they really like is there when they are picking. If they are then then yes.

Reminder: Jimmy would require the franchise tag to be here.

As far as drafting a QB goes, they can do that at 43 if they want/need to.

This team needs a future at QB sooner than later. Tom Brady isn't playing till he's 45. The pats will be lucky to get 2 more years out of him. And if he gets hurt. the team will be screwed. I'm praying they draft a QB.

I think the Pats take a QB at 43 or in the 3rd round. Need impact defenders at 31 and 62.
