I don’t need to have heard of them, they don’t even need to be any good lol just want some players. B.B. is starting to look like old mother Hubbard, no one here but us chickens

I for one have not become a chicken because this happens every year. Is this your first off-season following the transactions? The only thing I get surprised by is the yearly freak outs when it's obvious that this is what's coming.

The cupboard isn't bare at any position except LT. Sure, we need upgrades, but the team is surprisingly ready to go (after adding draft choices and UDFA's).

However, we are tight against the cap, given the situation at LT.

1) We are down to $20M and need to sign 2 OT's, a corner, and a LB.
2) Extensions can meet the money needs for later in the season (the draft, IR players, replacements Player 51. Player 52, and the Practice Squad, and game roster bonuses).

Kendricks is indeed an upgrade over Casillas. However,

CAP MONEY ($23M)
$9M Kendricks
$8M OT or two (this may not be enough if we trade for an OT AND sign Waddle
$4M CB
$2M Slater

Perhaps this works but agree with your stats.

Not to nit picks but Kendricks is $7.6mm

Pierre Desir CB beat out Vontae Davis in Indy. Perhaps you can get him a little cheaper. Tall kid. Played well in Cleveland to. Getting over shoulder surgery. One year prove it. $2mm.

Waddle or gulp with Croston or third rounder Garcia and hit the Draft. $4mm

Slater? OK

$15.6mm?

No they are not this Team have HOLES take your BB Darkers off mgteich!

Woodhead and Cleveland are essentially camp bodies. Cassilas a good M. Flowers replacement.

You are *****ing about things that dont require it.

All good signings at this point - if healthy. TC will settle the rest..
btw - Casillas played well in NY so its not gonna be vet min deal

Agreed.

Yes, Kendricks is $9M in 2019; my bad.

$15.6M is about right (call in $17M to allow for the minor signings) if we don't sign a second OT, which we should (after trading for the player).

PatsFan2, if you wish to be taken seriously during your annual meltdown over the exact same thing -- you do this every year -- at least make your meltdowns legible.

I would go all in on Tyrann Mathieu.

Imagine watching the Super Bowl with Mathieu manning the LB/SS role instead of Jordan freakin Richards. Would be a much different story.

McCourty, Chung, Harmon and Mathieu is easily the best safety unit in the entire league and it isn’t close.

I think people are forgetting everything that that has to be paid for with the cap. According to Miguel, we currently have about $19.7M in cap. About $2.5M will go to signing the new draft class. Another $8M will go to Bonuses, practice squad, IRs/NFLs/etc. So that leaves us with only $9.2M to sign...everyone.

Now, if you cut Allen that gives you another $4.4M to $13.6M. Not much cap when you have to sign maybe Slater, (2) OTs, maybe a LB, maybe a DE, and maybe a TE.

The Patriots have very little choice but to go dumpster diving in many cases unless they can get other players to restructure their deals so that we can mortgage the future by retaining more cap space now.

Anybody not named Jordon Richards and the SB would be a different story.

Yes, but you can't play 4 safeties on every snap. It doesn't make sense to pay $9 million a year or whatever for what last year was a 25% snap role.

Patriots are now reaching out to Woodhead.

Yes the last thing we want is anything that will create an incentive to play the 4 safety defense.

If for some reason we brought Matthieu in we would be getting rid of one of the other 3 safeties. I can’t see him as an upgrade, especially at that price to any of the 3.

Also buyer beware on this player. It is highly possible that he was cut not over money but over a drip off in skills due to injury issues. Many say he has lost quickness.

We are a nickel base defense and we have Hightower and van noy under contract. We won’t be paying 9 mill to a LB.

Unless the player can play more than just safety. Which he can. Or could, at least - the injury issue is definitely an open question. Rotating with Rowe as your CB2 and rotating with Jonathan Jones in the slot, in addition to playing safety in dime packages and giving Chung/McCourty/Harmon breathers.

If we're just looking for a Jordan Richards replacement (pure swap of roles), I'm sure it could be filled reasonably by someone making $1M - $1.5M.
