Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

To me the most likely story is pretty clear.
Butler was delayed getting to the SB because he was sick. He struggled all week in practice including “getting” the game plan. His pkay throughout the season was mediocre and Rowe after coming back from injury was pushing him for the job.
After a very difficult week B.B. decided Rowe moved ahead of butler and Rowe THAT WEEK with everything considered gave them a better chance to win. The game plan called for big nickel and dime (which is logical based upon the opponent) so the role for cb3 was going to be limited.
When butler was informed of this he melted down (we all saw it on tv) and the coach decided he wasn’t in the right frame of mind to be out on the field.
No conspiracy theory, no butler was a dlck, no grudges or retaliation or anything like that. No hard feelings. Just a player having a bad week and a game day melt down. I would assume B.B. spoke to vrabel and Robinson explained what happened that week, reported butlers overall attitude and work ethic for 4 years and recommended him.
Plausible. Also more suited for the Butler thread where the rest of our own guesses were hashed out. I'd like to hear it from someone in the know for a change.

Regards,
Chris

So... the most expensive free agent cornerback by far was not good enough for Belichick to play in the superbowl - that must be him playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers. I will never get over that fiasco.
Very happy for Butler, he will always be a hero to all Patriots fans. Congrats!
Most expensive by far? Huh?

It's far from "pretty clear". Those are some major assumptions and conclusions being drawn with some truths mixed in.

Even if I granted you all of that being true, considering how the game was going by half-time, or hell even the 4th quarter, Bill refusing to put Butler out there is ridiculous. However they psychologically evaluated Butler and his "frame of mind" ~2 hours earlier, had to be irrelevant by the 3rd or 4th quarter.

If Butler could step in during the Seattle Super Bowl as a UDFA and make the plays he did, surely he would've had no problem stepping in late vs the Eagles with his experience.

I am happy that butler got his contract, I thought he was such s great free agent find. And to get us a third round comp on the way out, is even better.

If he helps the titans keep the jags out of the playoffs, do much the better.

well when we play the steelers next season and antonio puts up 4 tds on rowe, we can look back and talk about what a turd butler was.

Heartbreaking, and to think that it hasn’t even happened yet? It’s horrible that you have to live with that sorrow for almost a year before it takes place.

Buckle up little soldier, you have a long haul ahead of you. #butlerstrong

We disagree. That is fine

Trumaine Johnson hit 15 mill a year

WOW, that's a lot of money. I don't think he is worth it. Just my opinion.

He was gonna get paid. In the end he won. He won two Super Bowls with our pats. Always grateful for his run here.

1. Good luck to Malcolm Butler. Even if he was a turd this year (and I’m not saying he was), his play at the end of SB49 was probably the best moment of my life as a Patriots fan.

2. Tennessee has now paired Ryan and Butler at roughly $22M per year. That is far from a shutdown duo that should command that price. They’re insane.
True & True.
