Browns trade Shelton to Patriots

It will be a really tough decision whether or not to pick up his option though.

Does anyone know what the cap number would likely be in the 5th year?

Miguel is estimating "around $7M each" for both Shelton and Brown.

I’m not going to judge this trade until I see what he does on the field. I will say that we feel the DL is the most pressing area were addressing so far, when you consider the failed Bennett trade.

What "failed Bennett trade"?

What "failed Bennett trade"?

The one we supposively offered Seattle after they had agreed in principle with philly. Unless that was debunked

Reportedly, we've offered a third round pick for Michael Bennett, but the Seahawks had already commited trading him to the Eagles (for less than what we offered) and didnt want to back down on their word.

So, in a sense, it was a failed trade, since if we had offer first, we would have him in our team

EDIT - we can't delete posts anymore? That sucks...

I don't get why the Browns would do this.

For us it is excellent...our run blocking was woeful last year which meant everything needed to be based around giving extra men to stop the run, and players at LB being so run block orientated that their pass rush was non existent except against dire teams, and they didn't have a coverage skillset.

Stop problem one, we can work on the others.

He doesn't fit their scheme anymore...

This is good because it will push mediocre Lawrence Guy out of the starting lineup.

Browns where 7th in rush defense this past season. Idk how much Shelton had to do with that but they where very good against the run.

I’m happy with the trade. Not as stoked as some folks, but happy. He will be a nice body to add to that line and probably has a very high ceiling with our staff and scheme. Gave up very little for him. Problem is, we now have Shelton and Brown that if both perform well are gonna have to get paid not far down the road. I see it as getting a piece to the puzzle we don’t currently have on the roster. Finding big DT’s built like that are hard. He’s had some success. Nice to see things getting started for the team. Let’s gooooo!

The one we supposively offered

Reportedly, we've offered a third round pick

The media - especially the sports media - speculates wildly (based on unnamed "inside sources") - IOW, they just make sh*t up - and then that speculation gets echoed by other media guys until it becomes accepted as fact.

You guys do know this, right?
