I think Belichick appropriates money in relation to units, and I’d rather see the money go to Lewis. I’m not saying the relationship is completely direct but I think he only wants to spend so much at RB, and using it on a guy who isn’t playing doesn’t make sense.

I think BB will pay the minimum amount that he needs to in order to fill a role that he deems necessary. That Gillislee's role wasn't sufficiently required in the second half of this past (fairly odd) season to keep him active doesn't necessarily mean that Gillislee isn't the best he sees available for that role for the money.

I'm reluctant to give Lewis that money.

Last year was his first playing a full healthy season since God knows when.

This draft is loaded at RB.
Rex was hurt a lot last year as well. So he also has an injury history to consider.

I’d give it to Lewis due to the investment not being too deep. It would only be a 2-3 year contract. And the overall potential payoff is pretty high.

Royce Freeman from Blount's Alma mater is my choice for a big back if we take one this draft.
Consider Auburn's Kamryn Pettway. Hurt of most of 2017 (shoulder now ready). Invited to combine.. Led the SEC in yards per game in 2016. 6" 236lbs.
Late Round steal.

I've seen he has a lot of character concerns. The quote on his NFL draft profile page is pretty damning: He's a mess. They were done with him over there and he's got too many character flags to be drafted. I thought he might be a late pick last year, but not anymore." -- AFC regional scout

Do you know what they're referring to? I'm unfamiliar.

So, on the NFL network they mentioned that Emmanuel Sanders may up traded by the Broncos. If so, the Pats should jump on him. Guy catches anything close and would actually be an upgrade over cooks and everyone else.

You crazy? Emmanuel Sanders would be behind Cooks, Edelman, and likely Hogan as well. We don't need another aging WR in our group, specifically one that would likely result in the release of a guy like Dorsett or Mitchell.

And don't get me started on giving up our limited # of draft picks for a guy like him.

I understand being a homer, but I think people sometime lose perspective. I like Hogan, but a healthy Sanders is a huge improvement and no one would miss the guy we cut (likely Dorsett).

Now I am not saying we should trade for him, or pay him what he likely will command, but let's not deny the guy his talent. He would be a major upgrade.

I'm really having difficulty seeing how keeping Gillislee has any real direct bearing on whether or not the team manages to keep Lewis.

You don't see how saving money by cutting one RB could free up money to go towards re-signing another RB?

Sanders has seen a decline in the last year, partially due to horrible QB play, but I would still prefer a healthy Hogan over the guy (chemistry with Brady is crucial). Anyways, we need a young future at many of our positions, which includes WR. Taking Sanders and dropping a youngster like Dorsett with potential might not be the move.

One guy i have some interest in is Taylor Gabriel, i know WR isn't a huge need for us at the moment. But thought he was very dynamic when we played the falcons.

Oh definitely. Wouldn’t mind him coming to New England.

I'm a fan of him, going to watch some tape of him and see what he could bring to us

Theres a lot of WR's late in the draft/UDFA that i'm currently looking into as well.

He would be a legit deep threat that can fight for the ball well

Interesting item on Freeman. He played through a cracked sternum during his junior year. That tells you that the kid can play through pain. And even with teams keying on him, he still put up 5.6 YPC in his junior year.

Supposedly, he's also good catching passes out of the backfield.

Currently, he's projected as a 4th round pick, but that is Pre-Combine. So he could go up or down..

I'm a big big fan. IF he runs well he could sneak into the third round if not the second. Really am a big fan of him

Given the youth of Lee, M.Flowers, and Rivers I think they will address the edge in free agency. McClellin, Harris, and Harrison should all be gone and I expect them to try and find younger more athletic LB’s in free agency. It won’t be the big names but I trust Caserio’s ability to find young veteran LB’s who can fill important roles for them.
Edge as in defensive ends?

Flowers, Trey
Wise, Deatrich
Rivers, Derek
Grissom, Geneo
Lee, Eric
