I am trying to move over here but it's really hard. On a good note, in years past I have had to avoid the boards for weeks after a big loss, so I guess that is an improvement.

It's hard because of the butler fiasco. If he would put him in for a couple of drives then maybe i can move on. It sucks what he did to butler. The guy won you a super bowl.

I am not over it and doubt I ever will be. I am still not over the loss to Oakland in 1976, either Giants Super Bowl and a handful of other big games. If any of them get replayed on the NFL network or whatnot I avoid watching them and will do the same with this game.

Now this game is not eating away at me at nearly the same intensity as most of those prior losses and I'll probably be able to start watching football news in the coming weeks but "over it" will never completely happen,

I was down for a couple of days, but thinking about it now...we needed a couple.of plays to go right for us to win that didn't. Last season we needed 10 plays to go right and all of them did. I'd rather have last year's magical win over this one, just because of the memorability of it.

So, does it suck. Yeah, they could have won. Does it eat at me like 2007/2011? No, not at all.

I was "over it" pretty quickly myself.

#1 - that was a FANTASTIC game from a football fan standpoint... plenty of ups and downs and when the Pats took the lead, visions of a 6th ring were dancing in my head... more so when I thought they'd hold the Eagles on 4th and 10 (damn good pass and catch by the Eagles there.)

#2 - despite ALL the cards stacked against them, including a 4th down to get the ball to mid field at around the 30 second point, Brady STILL managed to throw a Hail Mary with Gronk and a few others having a halfway decent chance to catch the tipped ball

Alas, they did not (and had they done so they'd still have needed the 2 point conversion)

So despite EVERYTHING that went bad Brady et al ALMOST pulled it out once again even when it seemed impossible to move the ball nearly the entire football field in 30 seconds.

That's DAMN good football in my book and makes it a lot easier to get over than it would have, say if they lost 28-3 or something unthinkable like that against Atlanta last year

2007 still hurts. So does 2011. But this one doesn't bother me.

I think it's because I absolutely positively hated the defensive game plan and how poorly we botched all sorts of decisions, especially on 4th down, while Philly had a great strategy and executed.

We simply did not deserve to win based on what the coaches set up, and it is shocking to look back and realize we even had a chance to win. That's totally due to Brady. Only Brady could keep us close in a game where the plan was to seemingly let the Eagles score at will whenever they wanted to in hopes of tiring out their offense or something.

As Belichick often says, players win games and coaches lose them.

Let's be honest - most of all might be over it since it wasn't Brady's fault in this game, it was purely a defensive botched effort. Now when we look at it, are we all more so Brady/Patriots Offense fans than we are the Patriots Offense/Defense/ST fans? Not to mean that all of us are purely Brady fans, but more so admirers of Tom than the defensive. As compared to previous losses, Brady's excellent performance makes the hurt significantly decrease.

yup, couldn't agree more. Eagles were the best team this year and deserve this.

At times like these I like to delve back into politics, you know, something a little less divisive.

In a way politics is actually less divisive than this, as more and more people realize that in politics the system is completely broken, regardless of beliefs.

I was a little bummed Sunday night. Bummed a little Monday. By Tuesday, ehh. I was over it.

But at no point was I near as bummed as 2007. Not anything like that.

2007 I was crushed. Beyond crushed. I had to step away for the entire offseason.

I really had to evaluate how irrational putting that much emotion into something that
1. Was just a game
2. I could't control

Having watched 5 Superbowl winning seasons really takes the sting out

Despite the fact I was warning all season long that that the offense was FAR too focused on Welker and Moss (to the point that when the game was on the line there was no question where it was going - rather than to "the open man") - to be THAT close to the amazing history of THE PERFECT SEASON only to have it snatched away

... and at THAT all because of a fabricated "scandal" involving a brand new rule in the first half of the first game would also devolve into a later retracted story that still endures as an urban myth today...

Well - I'd say at that point Brady really decided he was going to stick it to the rest of the NFL as best he could - so I suppose out of darkness comes the light

In any event, just like a roller coaster, the higher the highs, the lower the lows - but really you can't have it any other way if you want it to be a fun roller coaster!

I donno - both offenses and QBs were pretty damn "on"

I credit the QBs rather than completely fault the D

(though, c'mon... we all know that if Brady scores as much as he did, the D really should be able to hold on for the win.)

I was out of the country on a work trip but watched the game from start to finish. Being away from haters and Chicken Little Pats fans made the loss a bit easier to take. Also, the defense being so incredibly awful gave me a feeling of fatalistic resignation. Even after we went ahead, I had no faith in this team defending a lead and, sadly, was proven right. I was very happy with the offense -- 33 points should be enough to win and Brady was awesome. I'm optimistic because the offense should be even better in '18 and the defense will get a much-needed injection of talent.

I was over it Tuesday. its hard to stay miserable when they just won last year and I've watched them win 5. it would be like some rich kid crying that his dad took 2 million out of his 50 million trust fund.

For me and many others on here, this loss was more of an exclamation point on some of the problems that have been festering the past two seasons with the defense. I'm not particularly sad about this game because hopefully it will be the proverbial boot in Belichick's @ss to get more depth on that side of the ball.

Now, I understand the cap is an issue. My major disagreement is paying through the nose for players like Gilmore when it means not having legitimate depth. Guys like Gilmore are great at shutting down the other teams go to guy, but when a team like the Eagles has so many weapons we suffer by having invested most of our capital on one player. In other words, I would prefer to sign or extend a bunch of solid but unspectacular veterans than make a splash with a major talent that forces us to sign scrubs on the roster's back end. The depth of the Eagles meant they weathered our "wear them out" strategy on both sides of the ball. If we are going to make another run, we need a few more solid guys in the front seven to help give us a legitimate rotation.

I'm not sure I would use "will get" as much as "should get." It all comes down to Belichick being effective at free agency and the draft this year.

I really can't begin to understand this type of thinking.

I honestly don't know how people get over this loss so easily. Ask Atlanta and Seattle how easy it is to get back there.

We were:

a) 1 stop at 4th and 2
b) 1 drive by Brady that we've seen 50 times

...away from winning it all.

OTA's, draft, training camp, losing Edelman, losing Hightower, starting 2 and 2, winning home field in Pittsburgh in the craziest fashion, the Titans beating KC who were a bad match-up, Jags beating Pittsburgh, us coming back against the Jags...all of those things and just one stop against a back up QB. And we couldn't do it.

This was such a winnable game...we literally needed to have any defensive performance of the season except week 1 and we would have won.
