Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

BB's a God of football. The God of football knows what we want and is just teasing us.

This is a guy that comes out with 3 things to do to stop the other team. He knew damn well, leaving Butler off the field was going to harm this team. I think he's the kind of guy that just does it for the kicks. His real love is teaching football. That super bowl didn't mean anything to him. He already has 7 rings.

There's always something with this guy.

We can come back to this after BB retires from coaching. This one is definitely up with them because it sure as hell cost the team a superbowl win.
Sure as hell? Come on...

Well, except for Sunday. That's why it's kind of a big deal. Not just some regular season benching. Not just a snide remark. Not cutting a JAG on the eve of the Super Bowl or Milloy before the season. Those things "worked out well" because they were trivial by comparison.
Big or little, off-season, gameday or halftime...every decision has consequences and a ripple effect. I hated the decision then and still do, BUT I keep coming back to the same argument, we still have no clue as to why BB made that decision and I'm pretty sure TB and Kraft probably do.

You, of all people, should know better. And you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

No, I don't know what you're talking about.

And you were wrong, and should know better. These sort of things are not forgotten. We haven't forgotten helmet catch. We haven't forgotten 4th and 2. We haven't forgotten the Butler pick.

was listening to sports radio on my way home. They said it could be 3 things:

1Disciplinary- That's not true because MB came out and confirmed what belichick said.

2.Football- That can't be true because BB would have put him in when the D was getting lit up.

3.Personal vendetta- This is the one they agreed was the case. Something happened with MB over the course of his time here that pissed BB off and he was going to pay him in kind.

I think it's number 3 as well but I also think BB was getting back at Brady and Kraft for the Jimmy trade. Kill two birds with one stone.

I have to ask: what show were you listening to?

To cope with the loss, some posters are imagining a version of Malcolm Butler that obviously did not exist in Bill Belichick’s mind, and then further imagining that their imagination is a more accurate representation of the reality of Malcolm Butler than Belichick’s practice observations of the real Malcolm Butler.

You had me riiiiiiiight up until the part where you said that Belichick intentionally lost the Super Bowl by benching his CB2 as revenge against the conspiracy his owner and QB concocted to trade the backup QB.

no, I'm imagining if Butler could have made 1 more play than Richards or Bademosi made....and that would be 1

I also heard MB got in fisticuffs with Steve Belichick, WTF knows.

This is like Mike Martz refusing to run and keep passing against a 2001 Pats dime defense. This is Pete Carroll not using Marshawn Lynch. Belichick refused to win the game using his free agent-to-be CB
The defensive approach did have a touch of this stubbornness, didn't it. I know the players failed to execute but I didn't feel like the coaches put them in game winning situations. In my mind, the coaches blew this, big time. The caveat to that is they're human, it happens.

You really think that Butler went from 98-0 minutes in seconds flat because of practice observations? I don't.

No but he should have seen Butler in practice on wednesday and Thursday. He had plenty of time before sunday at 6:30 to inform him. There was a reason that Butler was crying - it’s because the coaches kept him in the dark that they were thinking of benching him.

They did see Butler in practice and didn't like what they saw.

The team does not name starters until later in the week.

So you guys (and gals) think Butler would say anything different, he's a free agent, he's being smart to get a contract. If you still don't think anything happened, then I don't know what to tell you.

Why would many of us think anything different? Belichick said it wasn’t for disciplinary reasons, and now Butler is saying it wasn’t for disciplinary reasons. So, we’re just going to say they are both liars and create our own story here? If it was disciplinary, then shame on Bill for completely mishandling the entire PR/optics side of it by creating some ******** story about how it was performance based. If it wasn’t disciplinary, then shame on Bill for not giving Butler a chance on Sunday when it was clear what he had on the field wasn’t working.

Almost anyone off the street could've made 1 more play than half the defense.

According to Mike Reiss, who I'll trust above anyone else in the media,
a high-ranking Pats official(not BB) said it was known up to 2 days before the SB that Malcolm was not part of the defensive game plan.

"wrong"

He also said 2 Patriots captains also knew " well ahead of the game" that Malcolm wasn't playing defense.

"wrong"

So that shoots down all the bogus talk if this being a "last minute" thing.

"wrong"

The same Pats official said Malcolm had struggled all week at practice with what the Pats wanted him to do vs. the Eagles.

"doesn't matter" and "wrong"

Malcolm and BB are not saying different things.

"irrelevant"

It's a good possibility Butler was in a weakened state at practice after being sick. So BB and his staff decided they needed to go with different personnel.

"silly"

I believe BB.

"You can believe him that is fine, but he is an idiot"

I also believe every word that Malcolm posted.

"Not relevant"

The 2 are not inconsistent with each other.

"Not relevant"

The only question left is why did BB not at least try Butler after halftime when everyone else was getting toasted. I don't know why.

"Because he is an idiot"

But BB is the goat for a reason.

"Brady is now the GOAT, and officially the real reason of the dynasty. We have decided today that the pendulum has swung officially to Brady as the reason for the Dynasty.. And in hind sight it is clear..

And he doesn't owe any us any kind of explanation.

"wrong"

But I have no problem with anything BB did.

"Stupid"

I also believe Malcolm did nothing wrong.

"wow, now you make no sense.

But this thread is a joke. 125 pages wasted on gossip.

"wrong"

I just posted to refute some inaccurate things some posted. And now I'm done with this ridiculous thread.

I don’t get this defense. It still impugns his judgment doesn’t it.
I don't know what to tell you. The coaching staff saw Malcolm having ****ty practices and knew he would have problems with Philly's scheme. Even though Rowe and Badman were sucking BB felt because Malcolm was going to have problems regardless he kept him on the pine.

Again, criticize away . It was a football decision.
