Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

QuantumMechanic, Ivan, AndyJohnson.

You spent your time in several threads, on the losing side of this argument and you had the gall to call all of us who “dared” go against Belichick fools.

Come get the crow.

What crow? (1) You're really so naive as to take Butler's statement at 100% face value? (2) Even if it's 100% true, nothing in that statement contradicts anything that the beat guys have been saying today about Butler crapping out in practice, snapping at coaches, clearing out his locker, etc.

So bunch of current players liking his post, including our GOAT QB even thanking him still means Butler is lying. If Butler did do something that caused him to get benched (curfew, yelling at coaches, drugs) why would any of them even acknowledge this post if the guy got himself benched due to behavior and cost them a Super Bowl? They could have done nothing and no one would have thought twice about it but they chose to acknowledge it.
Moreover, Malcolm's statement says that he's given everything to play at a high level for four years and that he would never do anything to hurt his team. He then specifically says he wishes he could have done more to help win the Super Bowl.

he won't fire Bill. If he does that Bill can coach somewhere else. That would be crazy unless the man is trying to lose now.
The only way I could see it is if it was actually a mutual thing, where Bill has too deep of disagreements with Kraft.

What you fail to acknowledge is it is a real possibility Butler did not get himself to the point where the coaching staff trusted him to carry out his assignments on the field on any level.

They suddenly realize this at 6:30 PM EST on Sunday February 4!!??!! This was a SCREW job on Butler.

I think it definitely discredits the whole “Malcolm did something bad” theory. But I don’t think it means anything in terms of Brady being mad at Bill for the decision.

Nor does it speak to the difference in opinion of what Malcolm deems as actions that do not help the team win and what BB thinks.

For example, does freelancing help or not help the team win?

Of those 5 Super Bowls Brady won us 4 and nearly got a 5th the other night. Belichick the defensive genius got bailed out in every Super Bowl victory except for 36.
Brady is responsible for it all. I feel like a light bulb has gone for me. He is more like Larry Bird now, than just some super productive part of a larger whole... Brady is the reason for this teams success. Time for him to get his KC Jones.

Pats' Butler refutes rumors for SB LII benching

The Patriots' decision not to play him in Super Bowl LII was puzzling, considering he had played in 97.8 percent of the defensive snaps in the regular season. But while the decision was a major surprise to the nation, it wasn't a shock to one high-ranking member of the organization who told ESPN that he was aware Butler wouldn't play a major role at least a day or two before the game.

That was consistent with what two of the team's captains said after the game, that they knew Butler wasn't going to be a significant part of the game-plan.

Why that was the case remains unknown, although one person who was at each of the team's practices leading up to the Super Bowl relayed that Butler struggled with what the Patriots were asking him to do against the Eagles' complex scheme. Couple those struggles with a regular season that Butler admitted wasn't his best, and it might have been part of coach Bill Belichick's decision-making process.

My question is if BB decided not to play him why not just make him inactive? Maybe Britt catches that Hail mary, Gillisle rushes for a TD, Branch makes a strip sack anything could've happened. It's all really strange

Please. Hes his teammate. Of course hes going to say that.

Please cite where I said Malcolm Butler was not a good player.

What you fail to acknowledge is it is a real possibility Butler did not get himself to the point where the coaching staff trusted him to carry out his assignments on the field on any level.
Yet Bill watched the defense play horrifically and didn't just put Butler in the game to see if it made a difference.

I wouldn't be quite as mad at Belichick if he had realized this is the goddamn Super Bowl and **** it what more could go wrong by putting in our season long starter?

Misleading thread title.....

The statement says “During Super Bowl week I never attended any concert, missed curfew, or participated in any of the ridiculous activities being reported. They are not only false, but hurtful, to me and my family.”

He never specifically mentions drugs (and he should have, since that’s probably one of the more egregious rumors out there). He went with the more non-specific ”any of the ridiculous activities being reported”

Not a big distinction, but the lawyer in me finds it a curious omission.

P.s. I’m not really a lawyer

Just chiming in, but let's assume the bolded is true. Did they trust Rowe/Bademosi/Richards more? And if they did (which appears to be the case), they were clearly mistaken.

Insanity is trying the same thing over and over while expecting a different result. Rowe got torched early so they put Gilmore on Jeffery.

Was Butler THAT bad performance-wise to justify not even trying him out on a defensive series? You can't get any worse than what we trotted out.

I just hope they recover and get together from it like they always do. This is very unusual in foxborough.
Belichick should be held accountable then made to stay or retire

You still got Brady as long as hes playing at a high level there is always a shot.

Yes, but I sense a trust issue in the future. Look BB tough love style functioned because everyone knew he is doing what's best for the team. After this decision I think this trust is gone.

We don't know what happened but we have never seen players so "openly" disagree with a decision.

We have the Head coach saying it wasn't disciplinary. Why are you so pressed to believe a bunch of beat guys reporting rumors and not believe your own coaches words?

It’s hilarious that the media is bashed for “fake news” and being “mediots” until now, when they report on rumors that people are deciding are totally and completely true because they want them to be.

You have no proof he was going to freelance. And Malcolm has never shown any indication of freelancing in previous play.

Get a grip of reality.

Well it doesn't take away why he didn't start on Sunday. When you have number 12 supporting you than it's worth something. It's the biggest game of the year and at the last minute you decide to start Rowe. Rowe got beat like a drum in that first series. The great ones make mistakes and BB did that on Sunday.

Suddenly at 6:30 PM EST on Sunday February 4!!??!! This was a SCREW job on Butler.

What was Bill's motivation?

Why would Bill keep his 1000 snap, #2 CB, Super Bowl/Pro Bowl defender out of the most important game of the year?

I never stated either way Malcolm committed an infraction. I said it was possible. Go back and read my posts.

Bill made a football decision. That is what he said. In his estimation, Malcolm was not to be trusted to play in the game on any level.

If you intend on behaving like a condescending jerk, we are done.

I mean you didn't defend BB and his choice, you just restated the BB made a choice.

If me predicting that you would do something is condescending, then I apologize for being right?
