Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

Ross is just covering for ivan who has been defending his stance slightly worse then the patriots secondary without butler on the field during the superbowl, which is to say very very badly.
Well my reason isn’t so deep. I was just saying that because I’m the OP of this thread. I win the power struggle

holy **** you giant ****ing troll.

BUTLER NEVER SAID THAT.

You have been told this repeatedly, You have been given the tweets from butler you are miss quoting twice now.
@Ivan just pita

Holy smoke. Um... This is going to make that meeting over the tension all the more awkward now. I'm shocked Tom went on and co-signed Malcolm's version of the events over the head of his coach. He must be absolutely livid with Bill to do that.

Source of this "co-signing"?

We have multiple beat guys independently confirming that there was a curfew issue and that he had a visitor in a restricted area.

We have multiple beat guys saying he was often frustrating to coach and required extra work so he would participate in the Patriots program the way BB & co wanted.

We even have that vague Reiss article from camp that was so head scratching back then but starts to mesh with things other writers are putting out now.

Those are all things he essentially denies in this post. I will go with the beat guys who got to know him over those 3-4 years and not the scorned CB who is heading on a wave of controversy into free agency.

We have multiple guys making reports. That's not the same as multiple guys proving anything.

Haven't you learned that by now?

That's crazy. Brady forces BB's hand and now backs a selfish player? WTF?

Terrible move by Brady if true.
He also hung out with lawyer milloy at his home after he was cut by BB over more money. Football and business desicions dont effect personal friendships of team mates.Especially when someone feels their team mate is being smeared on by the media and people

Grow up.
Disagree with what. I read it and posted that I would have clicked like also.

Well brady loves his teammates including butler. If it was up to him i am sure he would have liked for him to be on the field.

Well i think brady would do anything to win a game no matter the circumstances.

Oh, I totally agree that Bill made an idiotic and almost unforgivable decision that cost Tom another Super Bowl, I'm just stunned Tom is publicly confirming everything.

In this giant ****pile of a thread I guess it is easy to miss posts but I think in the end it was not a discipline issue alone but the missed curfew was the icing on top of the cake.

I think what Giardi and Thornton wrote about him being difficult to coach at times, lashing out at coaches during the BYE week and generally not showing up in those practices was what triggered BB to actively think about benching him and then there was "one more thing" and he snapped.

Again I have said that I would have played Butler at some point in the third quarter myself so I am not exactly agreeing with what BB did. But at the same time you dont **** around with BB even if it is in your final week with the team. Especially not right before a SB.

You don't bench the guy that got you there.

You don't play him for 98% of the seasons snaps, through injuries all over the team Butler was the constant solid on the back end keeping things together, even if hes not playing up to his standards, and then decide LUL were benching you for the most important game.

It's completely mind bogglingly crazy sauce.

20 years from now this is going to be brought up during the special 30 for 30 "2 goats and a bucket of rings."

We have the Head coach saying it wasn't disciplinary. Why are you so pressed to believe a bunch of beat guys reporting rumors and not believe your own coaches words?

I'm of the opinion that BB is the GOAT coach. It also doesn't mean he is perfect, far from it.

Just like Gregg Popovich tried justifying Tim Duncan's benching at the end of game 6 of the 2013 Finals and I understand why, but even in real time before the Benedict Allen shot I disagreed with his reasoning and was proven right. It doesn't mean Pop isn't one of the greatest NBA coaches of all time.

If even for tactical reasons, unless BB felt Butler couldn't possibly produce better than any of Rowe/Bademosi/Richards, it is ridiculous to say his decision to bench Butler for the ENTIRE game isn't at the very least questionable. It hurt the team tactically, and potentially the morale to a certain degree even if very little.

Richards has nothing to do with Butler. Richards is the last DB on the roster but is Chung's defacto Rover back up, which, you hope you don't have to use.

I think he's being neutral. If it was up to him butler would probably play. It's his last game in a patriots uniform.

@Ross12 to reply to your final response before locking the other thread:

Damn straight.
I’m just looking at one thread with 100+ pages and another with 40+ both discussing the same damn thing, wondering why... we can all fight in one place, don’t let our board chaos spill out all over the city like Philadelphia!

LOL

So, you don't bench a guy who is yapping at coaches during SB week, missed meetings, curfews, etc?

When DO you bench a guy from starting? When he bangs Linda Holiday?

Things seemed weird around the team going into the SB and are a lot weirder coming out. I'm not saying the sky is falling, they may be amazing next year, but there seems to be a lot to work out.
