Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

If you think this will go away as easily as Milloy, you need to put down the pipe.

I never said that.

Milloy took two weeks, this is going to take at least three.

At the end of the day pride got in the way of our HC’s clear mind.

The team deserved better - The offsense deserved better - Tom definitely deserves better.

I don’t like to believe anything I read but I feel Tom avoiding Matt P’s arm before the press conferences tells a tale.

I love Brady I love this team I hope number 6 is not far away

In years the DC and OC have been replaced here, there's been a two-year gap before another Super Bowl.

Apples to Oranges.

His motto is "Doing what is best for the team and putting them in a position to win".
He did not do that this time. If he thought Butler can`t play because he had a rough week of practice and/or was behaving improperly, fine. "Malcolm sprained his ankle while getting out of the bathtub, he won`t be able to play, we are moving on from him." Sort things out after the game, regardless of the outcome. There is no justification why starting CB did not know what was going on until the national anthem. Had he been privy to the info, he could have sought an advice from Gilmore, for an example. Rowe clearly said he did not know why Butler wasn`t available and that, to the best of his knowledge, he was the part of the game plan in the days leading up to the game. That is on Belichick. He created a friction just moments before the kickoff. It is a different ball game if the players are aware someone is out 6 or 12 hours before the big event. Secondary should have been given more time to regroup, discuss the situation, talk about new assignments.
Also, we were a man short (save for that one snap) the entire game and that is not doing what is the best for the team. As I said, King is a DB, and if you dont plan on playing Butler (because he is nursing that sprained ankle), then King has to play DB position and you activate Reedy, Britt, Hollister to play on STs and keep someone else fresh.

We DID hear from Butler. He seemed to say he thought it was performance related.

“They gave up on me. [Expletive]. It is what it is,” Butler told them. “I don’t know what it was. I guess I wasn’t playing good or they didn’t feel comfortable.”

‘I could have changed that game,’ says benched Malcolm Butler - The Boston Globe

That’s what I was thinking , that quote doesn’t sound to me like someone who was disciplined but who knows, maybe he’s just being delusional.... we’ll never know unless someone talks

Which is why I am convinced that it is some discipline/behavior-related thing.

If it really was just football, then there is no reason for Belichick and Patricia to not go "what the hell - nothing's working, so let's try Butler in there. It can't get any worse." After all, that was basically why Butler got in the game in SB49! The plan and packages did not have Butler playing. But what they did have wasn't working so they tried him.

But the fact that they wouldn't put him in for even a single snap, even when Chung had to miss snaps, tells me there was something more than just football-related going on.

"Foolish Pride". Take the players' word for it; they know better than you do.

I think those who don’t believe in Bill Belichick after he has led them to 8 Super Bowl’s should find another team to root for, if for no other reason than they are too f.cking stupid to root for this one.

Don’t let the door hit you on the ass on your out.

I didn't see any Patriots defensive players around Brady when he was sacked.

Yes, if Tom had only been 100% perfect instead of just historically great at 505 yards and 3 TDs against one of the top defenses in the league, we wouldn't have needed any defense at all. (Which is basically what we had.)

I didn't say anything about Brady. Obviously I was talking about the blocking, or lack there of, on that play.

(His record is 19-19 in New England without Tom. Missed playoffs and lost AFC East in 2008 when Tom was injured. But don't let pesky facts get in the way of your narrative.)

His record is 19-19 in New England without Tom.
His career isn't all in New England.

And good for him 19-19 isn't a winning record.

195-55 (.780)
Oh and 27 playoff wins vs 0 in NE without Brady (and 1 total in the rest of his 7 year career).

Don't need to hear it. He's a losing coach without Brady. Even taking the most selective sample size possible he's still only .500. Yet with Brady he's the winningest coach of all time and has the record for playoff wins.

Anybody else hear that Butler got caught trying to sneek weed into the Pats hotel? Someone called Sirius NFL radio and claimed thats what happened via Pats players.

Again the fans are not the issue. When you have someone like Ninkovich openly criticizing BB, it should be a red flag.

Brady should never have been in a position where he needed to win the game on that drive after already breaking the record for most yards in a Super Bowl, going 3TD 0INT and leading his team to 33 points.

Any fan who thinksBelichick is a JAG coach is a f.cking moron.

Yeah, like Bradys' never had to make a final drive before.

I blame that completely on Belichick, I’ve never seen a coach miss so many tackles.

I know, right? How could the offense just not go ahead and be perfect when the defense gave up scores on the 80% of Eagles' possessions? All the O did was set records for the most total offense in a losing effort in NFL history (postseason or regular season). Obviously they knew the Eagles were going to score almost every time. I mean, it's not like we had our #2 corner standing right there to help us. What more could we do?
