Malcolm Butler Mega Thread

Again. Who cares if you are angry at him. You're not a Pats fan. You never have been. You've been a troll and more than a few people have called you out for your stupidity in Game Day threads because of how you troll.

Right...im not a fan. Why am I taking this loss like someone died? posting dumb stuff in a thread doesn't mean I am less of a fan.

So I ask you, did benching Butler give them a better shot to win?

Completely ruined the defense. Chung had to play slot when he's an in the box safety, McCourty had to cover Ertz instead of play FS, Rowe had to play outside instead of slot, no Chung in the box meant the defense sucked against the run... entire defense was messed up without Malcolm Butler

We may have watched the same game last night but we definitely saw different ones.

The guy's a stone as a rock. It wouldn't shock me if butler had an argument with BB and he just decided to bench him. That's what I see here. Not this bs that he's throwing around.
not sure he will get away with not answering this time. I can't believe Kraft won't be getting an answer.

Maybe the answer is very valid though. I am 50/50 that it is bad but we will never know what it is or it is the lamest thing ever like Belichick just does not like him, thought he could win anyway then was stubborn, especially since brady kept him in it.

What I don't get is... If BB knew AHEAD OF TIME that he's not planning on playing Butler, why even have him dressed for the game? We could have used that spot elsewhere... Kenny Britt after Cooks was done.... Branch to help stopping the run, etc.... That's a double-whammy.... not only you're not playing your #2 corner, but he's also taking up a spot on the activated roster. So fcking stupid.

Disciplinary means punishment, right? It doesn’t have to be violation of a team rule. I mean there is no team rule per se not to murder someone but Hernandez did it...BB had wide discretion here.
I can't imagine he'd hold Malcolm out of the SB for cleaning out his locker.

However you never know. BB might have found out, asked Malcolm about it and one thing led to another.

All speculation.

It makes no sense at all! It's baffling. Also baffling was the lack of a pass rush. If so why didn't they try something different. Blitz! Change something up

Butler is getting some high praise in hindsight, he should have been out there but, let’s not act like he hasn’t been roasted in big games before like last year’s Super Bowl.

You aren't taking this loss like someone died.. You're piling on with stupid crap .

I've not made a determination on the Butler Benching because I don't know the situation beyond that Butler wasn't part of the game plan according to McCourty and that neither Butler, Gilmore or Rowe realized that Butler wasn't going to be starting until Butler was told officially 10 min before the game.

What I DO know is that the entire game is different with Butler out there. Period. Every play call by the Eagles is different. Every counter call by the Patriots is different. I'm not arrogant enough to say that the difference would favor the Patriots or favor the Eagles because I'm not clairvoyant. I just know that we see an entirely different game.

And don't be pissed at Belichick. It's his devotion to accountability that separates him from other coaches.[/QUOTE]

Except Belichick said the decision wasn't disciplinary.

Sucks to lose, but I am mostly upset that there is all the sudden no Patriot games to watch for 7 months.

He has but he did play well in the second half of the jags game. Agholor killed us. I don't think the jags would be 10 for 16 on 3rd downs with butler in the game.

time is going by so fast... looking at your gif of white running in the game winner in 51 and it feels like that could have been last night, but another one has past...

The other issue in having this happen right before kick off is the damage it had to do to the team, especially defense heads. BB messed with he entire teams balance. What a Major disruption this had to be! I am sure it was gut wrenching for Rowe who had no idea he was starting until just before kick off. Not to mention their teammate, friend, comrade was crying like a baby during the anthem. Yah, I am sure that had zero affect

The Pats D reverted back to the KC D we witnessed in week 1. All that progress and in one fell swoop it comes crashing down. Don't under estimate that psychological affect this had on that squad!

Belichick just said on the conference call there was absolutely no reason for benching Butler other than that "it was his decision" and it was "best for the team".

Who still thinks the loss isn't squarely on his shoulders?

Your hyperbole language is what makes this take just silly

I guess that BB is at fault that Rowe miscalculated a jump ball yet again even though this is being practiced a lot.
I guess that BB is at fault that Gilmore took a few steps too far to the sideline on one of the third down conversions and allowed a completion.
I guess that BB is at fault that Cardona snapped the ball low, which caused the holder to muff it and Ghost to miss a kick.
I guess that BB is at fault that Cooks thought he can friggin hurdle a player for a first down instead of diving towards he sideline.
I guess that BB is at fault that KVN vacated the space on a delayed rush where Ertz ended up on that 4th down conversion.
I guess that BB is at fault that DMac got picked on the very same 4th down 2 yards down the field.
I guess that BB is at fault that Bademosi could not make a straight forward tackle even though he is one of the better ST players in he entire league.
I guess that BB is at fault that Brady wasted about 20 seconds of time before halftime with a stupid run instead of throwing the ball away.
I guess that BB is at fault that KVN didnt drop into a zone behind towards the goal line, when Harmon motioned with the Eagles RB on the Ertz TD
.....

Point being sitting Butler definitely didnt help yesterday but the plays to win the game were there to make and we did not make a single one of them. And that is not squarely on coaching but to a big part on the players as well.

You know how we needed about 20 things to go in our favor to come back against the Falcons ? We just needed just 1-2 of those 10-12 situations yesterday to go our way but simply could not make it.

This may have been mentioned already, but the latest rumors are that Butler was partying at DJ Khalids the night before the game past curfew. There are also rumors that Butler missed the plane to MN.

Again, how do you know how bad or good I'm taking this game? You keep talking in absolutes. Furthermore, does the coach not owe the paying fans an explanation for the benching? He's not a dumb guy. There's no way that he could've thought Butler was worse then what we saw.

Now, I'm not saying the Patriots win with Butler. But you want to go down with your best players. And that's why this loss is so difficult to take.

it is not so much about whether he should get high praise.. it is that he basically play every defensive snap of the season give or take a handul until this game. He obviously did something not so good...

absolutely.........but putting him in to see what he could do against agholor was not a possibility....I mean, he was dressed

I’m sorry but this this explanation by BB is simply not good enough.

Unless your name is Robert Kraft, what you believe to be "not good enough" doesn't matter.
