It might feel different in the locker room, but this Super Bowl birth feels rather ho-hum compared to other years. Maybe it is winning 2 of the last three seasons. Or maybe it is the lack of a compelling storyline surrounding the Patriots winning. In either case, this year doesn't feel like the story is special and the upcoming game feels like any other game for the Patriots.

My question is whether this game being like any other actually helps the Patriots to achieve victory. Can the Patriots tap into this lack of distraction and have an even more focused Super Bowl effort than past years? Or is the lack of distraction more a problem, since this team has seemingly fed off of controversy in past championships. Moreover, does the lack of chaos in the media benefit the young Eagles who could founder if given too much media attention? Just a little food for thought and not meant to slight this team in the least for their great effort this year.

The experience will no doubt be a benefit, I'm hoping the glitter and lights makes some of the eagles **** their pants and we take control of the game early. Being in 3 out of the last 4 has to give them an advantage.

It may be kind of quiet here in Championship City but 300 miles south of here they are losing what little is left of their minds.

There is a good chance, win or lose, this game is the last Brady-Belichick Super Bowl ever played. If you're a Patriots fan it's hard to imagine a story more special than that.

I hope it is not but fear it could be. Yes, that’s plenty of story line

Never just another game for me. This is special. I never would have thought that, after attending SB36, we'd be talking about the 8th Super Bowl.

Problem is, after the 5th or so year someone says that and then they make another SB, you stop believing it.

There is no reason to feel that if you've been paying attention.
BOTH BB and TB have said things recently that they plan to continue on for a while. What does " for a while" mean? Don't know, but I'd lay heavy $ both are here for at least 2 more years.

Being here for at least 2 more years does not guarantee another Super Bowl appearance, never mind a win.

The point is you have no way of knowing. What Brady and Belichick plan might turn out to be irrelevant. There are no guarantees in life, and even fewer in the NFL. Every chance might be the last chance for years, or even decades.

I think maybe it's because the opposing team is not led by a pro-bowler QB (Matt Ryan, RW, etc.), and perhaps because it's a 'rematch', rather than a new match up which the Pats haven't faced before. Or maybe it's simply because the public is 'getting tired' of another Pats superbowl.... Personally, as a Pats fan, I don't give a 5hit.... give me MOAR trophies! MOOOOAAAARRRR!

No worries it will start picking up here in the next couple of days. Media coverage seems to be fairly minimal where I am (and nationally from what I see).

Thing is, the Patriot stories have mostly been told before. Granted there are new players, but the media has had 2 tries in the past 3 years to get anything about this team. Probably easier to find things from a Philly perspective.

Sure, I think that plays into it and it's all business. I also think it's quite comical how the media is ignoring (so far anyway), that the Pats have a chance to win 3/4 SBs, where MANY of these players not quite considered in NE lore, outside of Brady and Gronk of course as future HOFers, have a chance to be part of the first dynastic lore that our own fans hold so high:

Gotskowksi
Slater
Chung
Edelman (injured, yes)
McCourty
Gronk
Solder
Hightower (injured, but yes)

Bolden, Butler, etc, are other names, as either less contributors or more of a newer arrivel to the team in general (Butler, 2014).

As for now, it almost appears like our own fans won't quote give this era's players the same kind of recognition of the 2001-2004 teams, but with a win, they'd have to.

To me, a fan, the pressure seems less because the success has been so great that at this point more success is gravy. Mind you, I loves me some gravy.

For example my wife asked me how devastated I'd be if the Pats lost. I said I'd be disappointed but in no way devastated. Basically, they have thrilled me plenty. I don't even think of 2007 as devastating anymore.

The players & coaches, I am sure, are a lot less satisfied than I am as a fan.

Ok, now that you put it THAT way, I agree 100%.
I read your previous post differently, thought you were saying good chance one or both would walk away after the season, which I'd give about 0% chance of happening.
But if you're talking about maybe not getting back to the SB, well I think they will but theres no way of knowing. A lot can happen, like a serious injury to TB.
So I savor and enjoy EVERY game. But I'm almost getting pregame chills right now. SB is special. I don't take ANY Patriots games for granted, but especially not the SB. I'm as excited as I was in 85,96,01,03,04,07,11,14 and 16.
It never gets old.

There have been stories just they weren't as big. We are use to big stories leading up to it recently.

They tried to do the "there is a rift between BB/Brady peice" and then tried "ref-gate" none of it really stuck.

It feels rather ho-hum to the spygate and perfection lead up to 07' and the deflategate and suspension stories leading up to 14' and 16'. Also 16' was Brady trying to get 5 and break Montana's record.

11' didn't have a great story but it was the rematch for the perfect season which gave it some sizzle.

01' and 04' had their own stories... 01' was a great underdog tale and 04' was the dynasty game.

This is easily the most boring build up since 03' but there are more story lines right now than 03'

Why is that?

Win or lose the two teams in this Super Bowl will be favorites to win it next season.

I would hate to lose a super bowl to Nick Foles. He likely will make some money elsewhere if he loses but if he wins the super bowl he might get some hype and a long term deal. It's a winnable super bowl if our defense comes to play early.
