Not sure if this has ever happened before; granted there is 1 more reg season game to be played. Landry has 103 receptions, 895 yards & 8TDs. Has a WR ever eclipsed 100 catches, but had under 1,000 yards before???

Hes been a volume guy his entire career.

I mean hes a good player but #'s are so misleading today.

Yards & some catches are literally giving away today.

The slot WR workhorse is a new, and rare, thing, so there's not a lot of people to look at. Overall, there are some players who fit, or almost fit, the bill

  • Edelman went 105 for 1056, which is close
  • Matt Forte went 102 for 808, though he's an RB
  • LDT went 100 for 725, though he's an RB
  • Larry Centers went 101 for 969, though he's an RB
  • Troy Brown had 97 for 890, but that's just short of the 100 catch mark
There are probably others, but that's 5.

Interesting to look at last season in comparison to this one:

2017: 15 games, 151 tar, 103 rec for 895 yards (8.7 y/c) with 451 yards after catch (4.4 yac/rec).
2016: 16 games, 131 tar, 94 rec for 1136 yards (12.1 y/c) with 634 yards after catch (6.7 yac/rec).

He's obviously not getting the big plays and has less YAC on average. he's scored 8 TD this season though, so can't really knock him.

Addressing your question, I looked to see if any WR has 100 catches with < 10 yards/catch. Since the 2012 season, only a few players w/ 100 catches were less than 10 ypc:

2012 - Jason Witten (110 for 1039 = 9.5 ypc)
2014 - Matt Forte (102 for 808 = 7.9 ypc)
2016 - Larry Fitz ( 107 for 1023 = 9.6)

So Landry is way below both last year's y/c and the typical y/c for someone who is a top WR getting tons of targets.

Cutler probably checks down to him all the time, and likely doesn’t leave him opportunities to make big gains.

Yeah, but it's a limited pool question from the start, so there's really not much we can glean from it.

Yeah. Decent sized drop off from his yards per catch last year, and not many top WR's have as low of a yard/catch number as he's got... but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I was referring more to the idea of dedicated slot WRs who rack up big catch numbers being a rarity, on top of the requirement of catches + yard limitations, plus the limitation of it being only WRs, which means you're going to be forced to look at only a relative handful of players.

But that leads to what you just posted, in the end, so it's all just small branches off the same root.
