Breakdown of Jimmy G

We the hell are you talking about ? He had all the leverage and wanted to play. Brady is having another MVP season. They literally did all they could to postpone a decisions as long as possible without getting hosed on some ROI.

There was literally nothing you could have done without blowing up the entire salary cap structure of the team just to franchise him so he can be a backup for another year and live through the same situation in 2019 all over again.

Thanks for this -- if Jimmy thrives, I'm afraid we're in for a lot of the BS "let him go" narrative.

Jimmy G doing well over the next few seasons can be a great motivator for Brady as he tries to quiet the naysayers.

My trade gripe was couldn't Pats have gotten a DE as well.

Did BB do a favor for Jimmy by trading him to SF so he can come out the closet this off-season?

I don't think so... Garoppolo would have been a great Brady successor but Brady would have to retire first. My main gripe is that Garoppolo was worth more than just a 2nd round draft pick had the trade timing been done right.

meh....I think most people understood the situation reasonably well......it will suck if brady show's age while garoppolo goes MVP level but that's life

brady has not shown decline.....whaddya gonna do? if anything, they'll gripe about getting less than they got for cassel which is a legit gripe.......

they did it once, they'll do it again.....use the niners pick on clayton thorsen and start the process all over again

2 INT 1 TD 65% meh ...
2 wins on a bad team and I suppose you didn't see how often Jimmy G had to run for his life with that 49ers offensive line.

The 49ers got a fine quarterback, ought to be above league average and solve a problem for them if they can ink him. If not, all I hope is that he doesn't go to a rival (Bills or Jets). The idea of the JEST signing Garoppolo to try to build on McCown's (relative) success is the only one I'm even worried about and is one of the smarter moves they could make -- so of course they won't do it, but it's still a small cause for concern to me.

No matter how you look at it, he’s won all 4 games that he’s played in, and I’m pretty sure that he’s averaging over 300+ yards in each contest.

I completely understand the need to move on from JG, but I will always feel that SF fleeced us by only parting with a second round pick. I think Belichick could’ve held out for a little more, especially after hearing Lynch’s comments this week on how Garoppolo would’ve won 5 SBs in Tampa when Lynch was still playing. Considering the fact that Shanahan keeps harping on the fact that JG knows very little about their system yet, it’s starting to look like he’s going to be the real deal in terms of starting QBs.

It also doesn’t help that our “high” second round pick seems to be in jeopardy of falling much further than we expected. He’s also taken a 1 win team and made them a 3 win team, with 3 more games to play. The more I think about it, the more this second round compensation is pissing me off.

The Patriots were never going to get more than they got for a guy who is a pending UFA.

That’s why the talk about “2 first rounders” in the draft was laughable. There was zero chance they’d get even one.

I really hope you're right. But I'd bet good money that if and when the time comes that the Pats find themselves without a franchise QB and Jimmy is playing well, we'll see a steady stream of "they never should have let him go" and "they were shortsighted, they could have found a way."

There are better QBs to be had IMO in the coming draft(s). They’ll find one.

Oh, I don't disagree. I think they handled the situation reasonably: holding onto Jimmy as long as they could while getting some value in return, recognizing that Brissett wasn't the future, and looking ahead to the draft for "Brady's Would-Be Successor, Take 3." (I'm counting Mallett as the first, what do you think?)

The only thing I'm pessimistic about is the chances that fans/talk radio accept this reality IF we end up watching Jimmy tear up the league in a few years.

Tebow should have been his successor

Can someone with good knowdge of the QBs that could become elite give a breakdown of each of the QBs slated to come out the next 2 seasons.

Remember that JAG had no pre-season with SF. Performing well. Next season should be the benchmark.

The thing that really sucks about JG is that he is not only good but has also received years of tutelage from the best ever. Even if we find a good successor in the coming years, that guy will probably not get the same training.

Wish we had a talented young QB like that on the roster, waiting in the wings to eventually succeed Brady ...

They’ll find one and I expect him to be better and more durable than JG.

Depends on what he's got around him.

Other than his getting hurt in his second start with the Pats, there's nothing so far that suggests that Belichick saw some "fatal flaw" that made him want to trade him for any reason other than the Cap.

In other words, Garoppolo seems to be who we thought he was.
