How does this matter ? Especially on ST ?

By that logic should I rate CBs based on PBUs or tackles which means if a QB is avoiding them they will be among the worst on that list.

Go into all 22.. I especially recommend the game against the Bucs and against the Broncos and check out how he performs on returns. Most of that will not show up on the stats sheet.
He has zero.. zero special teams tackles. He doesn’t even have an assist. He has not blocked anything or downed a punt either.

Tell me more about his greatness on special teams.

A fifth round pick at the end of the round is cheap. And the cap hit matters less than having a diverse RB group and the depth for when one of them inevitably gets injured. Especially in a year where we had a lot of space and the cap continuing to go up.

It is the same stupid argument others try to make with Allen when in reality it doesnt matter because in both cases there are outs after the year. You cap space is not a savings account that you want to grow but you use it to build a team. Gillislee fulfills a role/niche that none of the other RBs should.

Again you are not arguing against me but beat guys and former players who have a similar opinion. But I suppose you know it better than people that actually lived the life.
It was not an end of the 5th round pick. It was in the top half of the first round. Gilislee doesn’t has been inactive 2 weeks in a row, clearly Belichick disagrees with you on him fulfilling anything other than a game day inactive.

I think people overlook how many mistakes having Tom Brady covers up.

B6 you need a self reckoning of your tunnel vision thought process. Try relaxation exercises, meditation, something.

There's two ultra critical positions in football: Coach & QB. If you have only one that is top of the mark, you can strike season success gold every so often. However, to sustain it year to year you need both.
BB will and does make mistakes, TB will and does make mistakes. Neither man is perfect. The teaming of the two men's top of the mark skills is what, over the long haul, keeps extending the winning ways.

I can't remember if you have to waive a player on his rookie contract (which Cassius should have been) to IR them now.

All players go through waivers now. If cleared then possible IR.

Right. IIRC an unvested player is waived before being put on IR but i need someone more knowledgeable to check me on that.

Yes. All players after the trade deadline have to be waived regardless of their contract status..
i think there's some confusion here, and two different issues--the waiver process, and the IR process.

before the first cutdown day, unvested players who are injured have to go through the waiver process before going to IR (e.g., michael williams in 2016). vested veterans can be placed directly on IR (e.g., ryan tanehill). after the first cutdown day, any player can be placed directly on IR (e.g., malcolm mitchell & deshaun watson).

before the trade deadline, unvested players who are cut have to go through the waiver process, while vested veterans become free agents (e.g., chris johnson). after the trade deadline, all players who are cut have to go through the waiver process (e.g., martellus bennett).

You are starting as insightful when it comes to ST as Adam Gase.

Upgrade by signing a journeyman backup. You should be embarrassed with some of the baseless nonsense you spit on here. Brissett is 23 years old and has performed as a top 20 QB this season, and you consider Brian Hoyer a career backup and upgrade.

Hoyer has had a multi year NFL career and is one of the better backups. At this point JB should be happy if he can have a career as long as someone like Hoyer because once Luck is back this is where JB will go.. sit on the bench for another 1-2 years waiting for the next Luck injury to come.

You should really reconsider if you are watching the right sport if you cant see that Hoyer is an upgrade for our team over JB.

Bill Belichick is due some criticism for his failure to adequately replace
Nincovitch, Long, and Sheard but should receive accolades for reenergizing
our offense with players like Lewis, Cooks, Burkhead, and Hogan.

"Adequately replace" with whom, specifically? What specific players were available who you're certain could have "adequately replaced" Nink, Long and Sheard and fit under the cap?

Keep in mind that he drafted Derek Rivers and that it's not BB's fault that Rivers tore an ACL. Also keep in mind that he drafted Wise (who's still developing) and DT/DE Guy, the edge portion of whose role may have been reduced due to VV's injury and Branch's poor play.

I swear people jump at the chance to drop a deuce on a BB personnel move that isn't one sided in his favor.

Marsh was a fringe roster player which BB saw upside and it didn't work out. For his trouble he lost a 5th and a 7th. Big deal.

Phil Perry is another Felger wanna be twit who thinks he's Ron Wolff

Fair enough. Eric Lee will be a failure here because he doesn't possess the size, athleticism, or track record of success anywhere else, to hope that he won't be a failure here too.

Eric Lee, 6032/260 (OLB/DE)

4.72/40, 1.60/10yd .. 24 reps .. 26.5 vert/117 lj .. 4.82 ss/7.41 3c

Hightower, 6030/265

4.68/40, 1.66/10yd .. N/A reps .. 32 vert/117 lj .. 4.64 ss/7.55 3c

For what we got out of that trade (A 70 yard Hunt receiving TD & an 80 yard Gordon rushing TD), that may be one of the worst BB trades of all time. Good thing it was low capital. Talk about a terrible edge setter.

As you say, those draft picks were likely to be camp fodder at best. Bill's track record with fringe players and street free agents is better than late draft choices. There seems to be a change in philosophy to use late round picks to get players who do not fit into their current teams plans as a way to stock the bottom of the roster. Either way these players are low risk for the potential reward. If it doesn't work out, move on to the next project. In some ways the team is simply trading Marsh for the guy from the Bill's practice squad.

Ok so what’s you are saying is Belichick made a terrible decision drafting Brissett and is so poor at scouting that he cannot even tell if a player will fit his system during the draft process?

Seems pretty harsh...

There were 18 selections made in the 5th round before #163 (the pick traded to Buffalo for Gillislee); there were 21 selections made in the round after #163 (including 9 compensatory picks). Not exactly "at the end of the round."

Imagine if the 1999 Patriots so a fridge player with some upside and traded their 6th round pick which ended up being #199 pick in the 2000 draft to that team to acquire him? Big deal..

Ok let's use the most extreme positive outcome in 90 years of NFL history to support some kind of argument.

Fact: 90% of 5th rounders are out of the NFL after 3 years.

Want to criticize Brady?

He's got the best headcoach of all time putting a team behind him!!

Want to criticize Belichick?

He's got the best quarterback of all time covering up his mistakes!!
How many coaches have won consistently without a great QB? Teams go as far as their QB takes them and we have had the best one in the NFL for almost 2 decades.

There are plenty of positive outcomes that have come out of the 5th round or later. To think wasting a pick as no big deal is not a sensible.
