If you got lost like I did with all of the trades this offseason and then the recent Jimmy G trade, I found a handy reference that can help:

Here’s an updated list of the Patriots’ 2018 draft picks

To summarize: Likely 8 picks when adding in compensatory selections, but many moving parts here. Here's what they have:

Own 1st rounder
SF's 2nd rounder
Own 2nd rounder
Own 3rd rounder (very unlikely possibility they could have own 4th rounder instead, if Eric Rowe plays about 100% of all possible snaps from here on out -- condition is 50% of total 2017 snaps)
Compensatory 4th rounder for Jabaal Sheard
Compensatory 4th rounder for Marty Bennett
Own 6th rounder
Compensatory 7th rounder for LeGarrette Blount

Obviously compensatory selections are subject to change, but Overthecap has been pretty good predicting these. There's also an unknown element about the Patriots own 7th rounder - it's suspected that they traded it for Marquis Flowers, but there was no confirmation that it was a 2018 pick that was sent, only that it was a 7th rounder; I've excluded for this purpose.

Edit: Johnson Bademosi was acquired with a 2019 6th rounder; that is the only future pick that's been traded away at this point to my knowledge.

7th comp for Blount is unlikely since they award only 32 comps IIRC.
Blount is at #37 by my count acc. to contract at the moment. His performance numbers were good and could move him up but harder now when Ajayi is signed..

We've got picks Upgrade defense all over; Edge, Fatty, Athletic LB, CB and safety.

I'd go for vets(FREE-AGENCY) to fill holes at LT and back-up TE.

The 49ers second round pick is huge because it opens up a ton of trade options for bb.

At this point, I think bb will trade out of the first round for another high second and a third.

That would give us 3 seconds, 2 thirds and 2 fourths. Dt, de, CB, Ilb, olb, lt and wr, in no particular order.

Thank you -- I should have known better than to trust the professional writers at Boston.com to get things right. Overthecap agrees with your assessment.

So likely 7 picks for the Pats - no 7th rounder.

One of the 4ths is earmarked for Philly, due to the Rowe trade, unless I'm counting incorrectly. Otherwise, I agree with your premise.

Unfortunately the multipliers probably aren't big enough to overcome the fact that the lowest players who do qualify are in the $2M range, while his cap hit is about $1.2M.

Would Cleveland take our sixth round pick for joe Thomas?

Thomas coming off injury, but we will probably need a left tackle and he is still playing at a high level.

I don't want a rookie LT in the last 2-3 seasons of TB12's career. If the staff thinks
Garcia can be developed. I'd go after a vet until he's ready. Defense, defense, defense with this draft.

So, that translates to ...

Late 1st (hoping it's the #32!)
Early 2nd
Late 2nd
Late 3rd
Very late 4th (probably no earlier than #140)
Late 6th (possibly as late as #216)

Not a whole lot to work with there, but do-able, I guess.

6 picks in 7 rounds. And two of the top 34 or so. Plenty to work with. More than most playoff teams with the standard 1-7.

You're right, of course.

I'm just warming up my "look how much more Belichick did with what little he had compared to what Cleveland did" theme.

Probably a little early, I guess. I mean, we won't even start putting up our Valentine's Day decorations for another week or so.

I don't like trading for picks. Get the best available talent. Is there anyway Josh Allen could fall into the second round?

What are the chances BB makes a draft trade with these picks? has to be at least 70% percent right?
