I believe that we can sign him in a couple of weeks. Unless things change, he would be an upgrade at backup TE.

He's on the Browns practice squad and I doubt the Pats would want go guarantee a roster spot for him for a few weeks given he's a fringe talent

IF he's an upgrade to the "soft Colt" as backup TE, then it's a massive GM fail, paying $6m for a blocker.

That 6m dollar blocker was only on the field for 5 total snaps, yesterday. It will be interesting to see whether this was gameplan specific or not. I don't think anyone really respects his ability to catch the ball and rightfully so. I'm guessing the defensive personnel would change when he's on the field, so it may be better to take advantage running out of the 3 WR formations with them in in nickel. We will see.

Is Lengel actually better, or was he just not scrutinized at all because he didn't cost a draft pick and more money?

Fair question.

Lengel was a mid-season acquisition who didn't have the "sync-up" benefits supposedly provided by a full summer and Camp that Allen had. And yet he caught passes in his 5th and 6th games with the Pats, one for a TD (2 of 3 targets).

He also averaged 26% of the snaps his last three games last year. Allen's snap % this year have been 33, 61, 27, 13, 68, 9.

Lengel is also 4 inches taller and 10+ lbs heavier than Allen and yet put up similar testing numbers.

In 6 games last season he caught 2 passes, including 1 TD.

In 6 games this year Allen has caught 0 passes.

Im pretty sure 2 > 0.

200% upgrade in pass catching and 100% upgrade in TDs??
That's all I need to know. Sign the beast immediately!

fair enough

It depends on what the situation is with Allen.

As we ease closer the bye and midseason, it seems reasonable to consider options.

Good thing they saved a couple million by getting allen instead of bennett. Maybe we can trade for bennett now than green bay is caput?

Whoever's idea it was to sign allen needs to be horsewhipped.

Anyone's an upgrade over Allen

8th highest cap space on the team! 5 snaps per game 0 catches...yuck!

Allen's snaps and snap percentages per week:

KCY: 27 snaps, 33.3%
NOR: 46 snaps, 60.5%
HOU: 17 snaps, 26.6%
CAR: 9 snaps, 12.9%
TBY: 50 snaps, 67.6% (Gronk OUT)
NYJ: 5 snaps, 8.8%

So, the determinant should be...with Gronk OUT, which TE player (Lengle vs Allen) contributes best to the restructured offensive game plan?

WHen it comes to Allen I would almost rather they make him focus on helping the O Line

I really do hope Allen can get it going soon. I feel like he COULD be good (and I imagine BB felt the same considering the trade and his salary cost), but he really has not put it together yet at all, it seems...
