I had to step out after the Gillislee fumble to take care of business and miss my first Pats game on Sunday since 2010. But we freaking won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES YES YES YES YES! Let's party guys! we beat the Super Bowl favourites New Jersey jetes!

Ok, so what I miss?

Plus the drive only got that far because of two bizarre holding calls on Brown and Branch on running plays.
These were as puzzling (especially since CBS showed no replays) as the defensive holding against Chung on the Panthers' game-winning drive. I don't really get the concept of defensive holdings on running plays by defensive linemen. How the heck does that even work?

Without seeing the all 22 it looked like they were trying to protect Brady more so than usual. I saw a lot of RB's chipping hard coming out of the backfield etc....

I am very curious about a sequence late in the second quarter where Waddle seemed to be the LT. Of course the two senile bozos in the boot h didnt even pick up on it.

At least Dion Lewis looked good today. Love when he's running well.

Does anyone have any insight as to why Bademosi got the start at CB over Jones? I figured because Jones has more experience in the system and actually played a bit at nickel corner last year that he'd be the second CB behind Butler. From the eye test, that wasn't the case today although I suppose we'll know more when the snap counts come out. Just thought it was interesting.

Are you saying that because Jones played a bit of nickel corner, therefore he should have started as an outside corner?

He did great as a pass blocker too, he made a couple key blocks to keep Brady upright.

He saved Brady from one blindside hit, in particular, that damn well might have killed him.

The Falcons are a good team. It will be a tough game but I like our guys and Atlanta is playing worse that the patriots are right now.

I agree, if we get one of our corners back.

To be fair. That was his job.

Can only play whoever the opponent puts on the field.
The problem with that is what happens when the opponent puts better players on the field? The team loses like against KC and Carolina. They need to acknowledge they didn't play at an acceptable level defensively and get better to have a change against actual good offenses later on.

He can't really cover, but he's a pretty damned good tackler from what I saw.

Yeah, he's shown up for us on special teams and did the same for us on D today. A lot of sloppy tackling by DBs, especially Butler, which is uncharacteristic of him. McCourty and Bademosi were laying the wood today though.

It would be such a cosmic FU to the Jets and NFL if the Pats got the first seed due largely in part to this win and went on to win another SB. I would take 20 losing seasons afterwards for that outcome. It'd be perfect

I'm good especially after the last two SB wins which were perfectly timed wins because they bookended the defamegate BS and literally shoved that nonsense right up Rogah's ass and was topped off with a massive boofest in front of millions of TV viewers. Anything else is gravy.

Are you saying that because Jones played a bit of nickel corner, therefore he should have started as an outside corner?

No, just that he might be more familiar with the system and thus, less susceptible to the communication breakdowns we experienced earlier in the year XD

Can we get another one of those “things people said in the game thread” posts? Some whoppers in there today, my goodness.

IMO Lewis is a borderline elite all around RB when he's healthy.

It'll be unpopular here but I think the refs blew the touchback call.

Yes, the ball absolutely was loose before the ballcarrier crossed the plane. However, I don't think it's possible to tell where he re-established control. Therefore, since the call on the field was a TD, it should have stood.

I'm obviously happy it didn't, of course.

The defense was borderline atrocious today. They did make a few clutch plays that helped them win the game, but overall they were very below average.

They better get better when Gilmore/Rowe return.

The whole team played badly Until the Jets went up 14-0. The defense played well from that point until the Pats went up 24-14, then started to play a lot of quarters, some three man rush, some soft cover 2. A few players blew some coverages and they almost blew the game. The O went very conservative.

Division game. 4-2. It’s a work in progress. The progress is slow.

If you play a different team or QB your entire gameplan and approach changes. Discussing how Brees would pick us apart based on our performance this week is as pointless as saying that the Bucs would have won the game last week if they had made those fieldgoals.
