I know there's a thread on Dwayne Allen's lack of making plays, but David Harris, another veteran free agent we signed this offseason, isn't even playing.

He played 4 snaps against the Texans, bringing his season total to 7. This is all with Donta missing the last two games and part of the first one.

WTF.

I would not be surprised if he gets cut, unless we are saving him for a certain run-first team.

Harris plays only against the run. He is behind Roberts in the depth chart. So, Harris is a backup, who may not play without an injury. Folks don't complain because Karras doesn't play.

We expected more from Harris. We hope for a starter, certainly ahead of Roberts. However, he is still an asset, just a lot less than we expected. We overpaid. Obviously, unless he improves a lot, he won't be back next year.

The Pats have an injury and Harris isn't getting on the field even in run situations

Not sure what purpose he serves. If he's not better than Roberts, he's pretty useless

So, what you are saying is that Belichick should have chosen between Roberts and Harris. Belichick thought that the team needed 2 backups. Which is better really isn't that relevant, other than the cap cost (for example, we would have been better off with freely instead of Harris).

I've been disappointed that Harris hasn't had a bigger role, but I'm not sure that Hightower's injury really affects him all that much. I think they planned on using Hightower much more on the outside than the middle this year, and Van Noy has taken over those snaps. Harris is more of an inside guy, and while I'm disappointed (and surprised) that he couldn't beat out Roberts, it wouldn't do him or the team much good to play him out of position.

The only thing I can think is they are waiting for a specific game or games for him but as of yet we have played to many teams where speed has limited his usage. The Chiefs are very fast and have a mobile QB, Houston also has a very mobile QB but their team speed overall isnt very scary, Saints do pass alot and esp to Rbs so I can see why he was limited there but taking all that into consideration, when they hell do we use him!

I mean this week is Cam and Mcaffery so maybe we dont see him much this week either. Maybe we do see him vs say Jets or like Miami?

If Hightower is out again this week, I expect Harris to get more snaps.

Snaps come based on gameplan. It's why you see Butler barely play one week and then play all the snaps the following week.

Snaps also come based on ability, capability, scheme and overall depth and breadth of what you can do on the field.

For example, there are reasons why Van Noy, Roberts and a healthy Hightower are ahead of Harris.

The reasons are they can do more situationally and are better players.

Why?

CAR has a versatile, elusive QB like HOU and didn't play and a passing back like dynamo like KC and didn't play.

Unless Roberts was destroyed in film review I'm not seeing it.

This is true. Its brutal.

Yeah, and Harris is likely to make better defensive reads than Roberts, which should help with run fits. They'd have to keep him out of covering McCaffrey, but that should be doable, given how bad the Panthers receiving positions are now that Olsen is on IR. BB does love him some disciplined defenders who make the right read, after all.

Just my $.02

Rather he stays on the bench and has a good locker room presence than have another Shaun Ellis who gets lots of snaps but sucks.

I'm not surprised at all that it turned out this way, but I can only hope BB expected it as well and brought him in for the intangibles.

It is also based on how well you perform in practice.. Butler played all snaps last week due to an injury of Eric Rowe, he did play well though when called upon.
