Multiple teams have expressed interest in trading for Dion Lewis

Lewis is an explosive player. When healthy he creates nightmares for the defense.

That being said if we can get back a player on defense who can help us now I think you need to make that trade. Our D averaged giving up 30ppg in preseason and that number inflated to 40ppg in the regular season. We clearly need some defensive help.

If the offers are only mid round draft picks I would pass though. Picks don't help us win this year.

The obvious answer is it depends, it depends on what the return would be.

Having said that, I would move him in a heartbeat, either for a player this year, or to restock the pipeline with draft picks that the Pats obviously need, due to the shortage of picks the last couple of years, both for reasons under their control and not.

Of course not, but what they do help is the Pats continuing to be excellent, as they have for almost two decades.

The Pats lack of draft picks will eventually come back to bite them if it's not addressed.

At the same time.... Burkhead doesn't (yet) seem able to separate or make his cuts on routes to elude defenders.

I'm not sure if Foster can provide the same elusiveness that Lewis does. Didn't really watch him in the preseason. Can anyone explain what Foster brings as a receiving threat???

Unknown yet. Mostly potential. Same size as Edelman with comparable pre-draft testing numbers. Had 222 catches for 2458 yards and 14 TDs - as an RB - against Pac-12 competition in his 4-year college career.

Was on the Pats' 53-man all last season except for six days around Thanksgiving.

This team went from giving up no point in the 4th quarter to 21 freaking points aginst the chiefs, i would absolutely entertain giving up lewis for some help on defense.

Therein lies the problem, though. What is Dion Lewis (career high of 283 yds and 2 touchdowns rushing/receiving since 2011) going to bring in return?

A 5th round draft pick or fringe player that no one cares about? May as well keep him. That all said, there has to be a reason why he was kept out of action for the most part and why we have 19 running backs. I guess I would assume that he'll be traded.

1) Lewis will bring a 4th or 5th.

2) We could trade a 4th or 5th for a player.

These two are not related.

I'm fine with either or both.

I think he's definitely more valuable here than he is in trade. Judging by the fact that he barely saw any action and they stockpiled at the position, Belichick may disagree. We certainly discussed trading him plenty of times throughout the summer.

I think the time to watch for him to be traded will be after a game where he's featured heavily. My guess would be he stays though.

If the Patriots are interested making a trade in the slightest, they cannot risk getting Lewis injured. So a trade would need to happen quickly.

Otherwise, if they feel he can help them win games this season and put stress on opposing defenses with his elusiveness and pass catching, they should keep him and try compete.

He might very well be a luxury on the roster, but sometimes you don't know a player's value on the depth chart, until you need them.

I'm sure DJ Foster can be serviceable - but Lewis gives us more in the short-run to compete for a Super Bowl. He's a polished product with unique skills.

By all indications, Patriots want to go all in to win this year. I suspect their priority is to use Lewis, unless someone makes an offer that can't be turned down.

So I wouldn't trade Lewis for draft picks. It would need to be for someone who can step in right away and contribute right away

DE is a huge need. Maybe we send Dion to Philly and get Blount back plus a draft pick

If they can get the rubber bands and glue to hold, sure, I'm all for a featured game.

Proposal: Lewis + conditional 3/4 rounder for Rams' Robert Quinn?
DW Toys? Is that you?

Quinn is a staple of their defense. I'm guessing you could trade 3 Dion Lewis's and it wouldn't be enough, especially now with Donald holding out.

He's been injured and only started 8 and 7 games in each of the last 2 years.

And I'm not sure what their cap situation is like but perhaps it frees up some money to get their even bigger defensive staple, Donald, back on the field.

Just a fan proposal I was throwing out there. I'm no GM or expert in player evaluations.

Donald reported to the team today.
