Does Moss Really Matter?

Moss matters, but he is part of a big puzzle.. he might play "big" here or he might just get a couple of receptions a game, he is playing in front of a big time QB who spreads the ball around. I anticipate big things from him, but if he were to get hurt we would adjust, just as we have in the past. If you are looking at him to be the feature offensive player, it will probably not be him.

I think the best example of if a player matters is illustrated in the absence of Seymour and Harrison. Aside from Brady no one players should make or break a team.

It matters for my sanity.
I've been waiting to see Moss, Stallworth and Welker. in the three wide set since april 29th.

I was the one saying Randy was worth a first Round pick. everyone else was saying he was washed up.

now that we got him for a 4th rounder, everyone loves him.

don't get me wrong I like keeping the first round pick, but when it comes down to it I think he puts us over the top if he stays healthy, and I would trade a first rounder for a superbowl every year.

That threat alone makes him matter quite a bit. One guy occupying a cb and a safety is extremely valuable.

Well stated. The fact that we can even discuss this topic compared to this time last season makes him a factor before he even steps onto the field. He doesn't even have to catch a pass to have an impact on a game.

Randy Moss compares favorably to Michael Irvin. A mainstay of the Cowboys Dynasty and the 'Triplets'. If you've got that type of player he is going to make plays for you, big plays. So yes Moss matters. We can win without him, that goes without speaking, but he is going to add another dimension to the Pats offense.

Actually, the questioned posed above is an interesting one, and one I'm interested in seeing will play out. Hopefully in this game.

As Slag points out, obviously a healthy Moss will be doubled out of the gate, but I'm curious to know if Mangina dares too uncover him with the safety if they are routinely getting burned underneath by Welker or Watson. Or even if Maroney has to much open space to romp around in. I'm not the biggest X's and O's guys (admittedly), but it seems that if Welker and Watson are running open on the intermediate routes with LB routinely having to drop into coverage with them, that's a recipe for defensive disaster, isn't it?

Obviously doubling Moss only works if you can afford the over the top help. But that can't mean "at all costs", can it? At some point, you have to account for other weapons? No?

It'll hopefully be fun watch play out.

To me, the overall view towards the offense is simple. I don't understand why this argument doesn't end all arguments.

Look what we were able to accomplish with last year's offense!!!

We had a rookie RB getting his feet wet, getting injured and playing at 50% of his capabilities.

Dillon, although invaluable in short yardage due his his strength, did very little on the ground.

We are worried about Brady gelling with his new receivers. Are we crazy?

He was somehow able to gel pretty quickly with the likes of Reche Caldwell AS HIS #1 RECEIVER!

But he'll have a hard time gelling with Moss, Stallworth and Welker??????

With Tom Brady as QB, there is no way this team is a paper tiger.

I'm extremely excited at looking forward to seeing these guys play together.

I for one am giddy waiting to see Moss catch a bomb from Brady. So dont get me wrong. But even if Moss were to be cut (from the rumors) or injured do you really think it matters?

Last years WR lineup in the first few games:
Cauldwell, T Brown, Gabriel, Gaff., CJ

This year W/O Moss:
Stalworth, Welker, Gaff, Washington

Brady is stacked any way you look at it.

No offense....but this has to be one of the dumbest questions that I have seen posted on here.........I don't care if he is 60% AWESOME and 40% decoy (kind of like T Owens the past few years)......He doesn't have to BE the OFFENSE here to succeed....he only has to be a PART........Make no mistake, Randy Moss IS......and will be a HUGE PART of this offense....but does he need to CARRY IT? ....NO!!!!! Too many other PARTS that will help him and our O out this year......this year we are truly LOADED on Offense.....takes all the pressure off Moss....and that will lead to one of the BEST years of his career!!! (One man's opinion!........) GO PATS!
