Did I hear this correctly? A little help please.

It is so bizarre and ignorant I'm doubting my own ears.

Faurier, commenting on the Jags early success running up the middle, said that Wilfork's retirement creates a lot of opportunity for the young DT's that wasn't available before because he took up so much space and playing time.

Somebody help me...is he really that out of touch?
Meh, failed attempt at humor.

I particularly like the way they ignore the game completely and ramble on like what they have to say is so insightful it's better than the game.

Or even better when they reference last years preseason broadcast and how they will need a better dance this year. WE DIDN'T LIKE IT LAST YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just stick to the game and keep everything else for when someone actually gives a crap.

Would you all prefer Jerry Glanville and Randy Cross??

Fauria is not great, but most alternatives for local broadcasts are much worse..

I absolutely would. It's a matter of degree.

"Leakage coming out the backside" was the only comment he made that I liked. Not sure if that was unintended brilliance, but it definitely made me laugh. Other than that, he sucked

I would. Last night I was just screaming at them to just shut up.

Me or Faurier? Certainly not me...I seriously want to know if I heard him correctly. He stated that Wilfork had been playing as a Patriot up until his retirement. He's a Patriot's announcer. I'm not laughing.

Him? I don't think so.

Watched it last night, and that was not what he was getting at. He is a meathead, but you misunderstood.

He commented that Wilfork just retired.

Then he said that Big Vince was such a great lineman because he occupied so many blockers.

Then he said (paraphrasing here, I deleted the tape)

"That creates a lot of opportunities for other defenders to make plays"

You took that to mean that Vince retiring creates a lot of opportunities for other defenders to make plays. What he meant was that occupying so many blockers, like Vince could do, is a rare skill that creates a lot of opportunities for other defenders to make plays.

Wondering who's ****blocking Matt Chatham and why.

Not only does he have genuine football knowledge, but he is very witty, a lot of one liners. Exactly what you would want in a TV commentator.
I've been lobbying for MattChat to do color for 3 years now.

Fauria freaking sucks. He's such a steakhead

Perillo and Hart are completely useless.

I always find the lack of polish on the pre-season production value to be kind of adorable. A little bit of a throwback to earlier times when a NFL game didn't have production resources thrown at it from every angle.

It was never, ever as bad as those bozos. The 60s, 70s, and 80s announcers were good pros (resurrect Charlie Jones, please!), even if production values were nothing like what they are today.

**** Enberg in his prime was outstanding as well.

Good ole Charlie Jones....rumor is he had a few before calling a game as it helped his nerves.

It didn't show. I still remember that NE/Colts game where the Colts tried a fair catch free kick and (a) Charlie Jones knew it was a possibility before the coach even told the ref they were going to try, and (b) Knew the rule right off the bat.

He knew it as soon as the receiver fair-caught the kickoff.

(P.S. Bob Griese has always been an idiot.)

Like I said..rumor was Jones had a few before a game to calm his nerves.

:p

Be thankful that Mrs Bruschi seems absent from this forum these years. She had the wicked hots for Fauria. Worse yet, my wife really likes him.

I would love to have Chatham as a color analyst or other position of airtime prominence.

P&H are BEYOND useless. How do dweebs like that stay employed?

Fuaria. It is a variation of a joke I used about Vince needing to read the fine print in that "one day" contract. I assume it was a set p and he never got to deliver the punchline. It happens when you send your partner what you think is an easy alley oop, then they blow it. Like when Gronk asked the girl at the speedway what is her favorite speed under 70 or whatever and instead of saying 69 she said something moronic.

Fair enough. That was before when I started watching.

Fauria is bad at commentary and equally as bad at owning a bar as his schitty sports bar "Surly Johnson's" went under after a couple of years...

After this thread tried to listen more critically last night, overall did not think they did that bad.. some confusion over some of the rules, but they only apply their craft to 4 preseason games every year, so anticipate some deficits.. this is a part time gig.

IMO the problem is that they try to do too much, going back to the studio with Perillo and Hart is confusing and then when Perillo and Hart talk about their new shirts it becomes confusing..

They are not a well oiled machine, but do the job.. better than an unfamiliar football media announcing crew who do not understand the Patriots system or the Patriots players...

This is the 5th year for Roche/Fauria and now have 18 games under their belt.. they should not give up their day jobs though.
