Gil Brandt...

Is he a Patriot's hater? Maybe he's just trying to hurt the Pats in future contract talks.

After the Pats completed the greatest comeback in SB history I started re-watching the games from the regular season. I just finished and can now start watching the 3GTG and SB LI Champs videos. One thing that stuck out like a sore thumb is that Malcolm Butler was the best player on the Pats defense last year

Malcolm Butler has a chance to be HOF-worthy. Corners often do not hit their stride until year 4 or so. Especially those that played D2 in college.

I doubt any player on that list ever made a bigger play than Butler.

":The superbowl play 2 years ago might have been the greatest and most impactful single defensive play in Superbowl history. But Butler has proven to be FAR from a one hit wonder. The FO felt good enough about him to let go their 3 starting CB's from a superbowl winning team.

He hits all the targets that BB loves the most. He's extremely coachable. He maximizes his physical talent. He's improved EVERY season. He's extremely competitive. He has a great work ethic. And most importantly, he's AVAILABLE. He's out there for every game AND practice.

That being said, #2o ALL time might be setting the bar a bit too high. Not that he might not get there before he's through, but that it's way to early to give him that kind of label right NOW.

I want Butler to have even a better season this year than last (including a better superbowl game ). I want him to be SO good that the Pats are literally forced to give him a LEAST the franchise tag, or that he gets his big money deal elsewhere. He deserves it.

BTW- while there WERE a few plays against the Falcon's "historically good" offense he'd like to have back. But we should also remember that he was also a big part of that Pat's defense that held that held an "historically good offense" to just 7 points the entire 2nd half. Not only that, the defense was SO dominant that the only time they got even into FG range it took one of the greatest catches in superbowl HISTORY to get them there.....and then they made the the plays necessary to push them back (including the great rush by Long to force the hold, AND the 2 yd loss on the first down run)

So maybe his play in that superbowl game wasn't as bad as it first looks on the surface.

We ***** when our guys are snubbed and we ***** when they're recognized.
Exactamundo!!!
We turn over rocks looking for the slightest hint of disrespect and then post endless threads about how insulted we are, when the real disrespect is the insult to our intelligence that nearly all of these mediots represent by the simple fact of their existence.
So if one of them finally errs on the side of being a little over enthusiastic in his assessment of one of our guys, why should we even give a ****? What difference does it make? Why do we care?

I don't know where Butler ranks all-time, but I do know this:. I've been watching the Patriots play since day 1 in 1960, and Malcolm Butler is really f###### good. Really, really f###### good. Just sayin'..

The 2 worst picks are sherman at #9--way,way,WAY overrated- he's not top 15,and Revis at 16!! Are you kidding me!? Revis is top 5 all time and in the conversation for #1,along with primetime and Mike Haynes.
Also champ Bailey is way too low-he's top 10 all time.
As for Malcolm- look, he's top 5 in the NFL right now and yes,he's a better cb right now than Sherman, despite what some fools on this board think. But top 20 RIGHT NOW? After 3 seasons? That's ridiculous. And I'm a huge Butler fan.
I agree with the poster who said he's the best player on the Pats D, w/o question and we have some really good probowl- caliber guys like Hightower,Dmac, chung,Gilmore and blossoming star in flowers.
He may well be in the hof,but damn, top 20 after just 3 years? That's just stupid.
