Three months and ten days later Dan Quinn's conclusion of the cause of his team's SBLI collapse is pretty much the same: they were gassed. Still after thorough film study same words get some new meaning.. (and no, he's not discussing the elephant in the room . simply playing the clock..)

It isn't just a hill. It's how you use it, how much you use it. And a LOT of players would b*tch incessantly if their coach suddenly had a replica Mt. Everest built on their practice field. BB drafts/signs players that may not like it, but shut up and do it anyway.

It's not just that BB drafts/signs players that do it anyway.
It's because the Pats are consistently great and all players,whether draftees or fas, know they have a better shot of being a champion in NE than anywhere else. They also know BB has the rep of helping players reach their max potential.
There are probably a number of current Patriots, who might have a problem with running up "Mt Everest" after a mid- July 90' practice, if say,they played for Indy,Cleve or the jests. It's not just about the character/makeup of Patriots players- the success,greatness and cache of BB and TB carries a TON of weight.

Outside of the Patriots level of play, there are a few things that really hurt the Falcons.

1. Alex Mack should have been replaced. Mack was absolutely blown up in the second half by Trey Flowers. Mack was clearly hurting badly and should not have been in the game. Whoever his backup was, I'm sure he had two functioning legs. Mack let up the two major sacks and multiple pressures.

2. Two major yardage losses that removed them field goal range. The first was in the third quarter after the Patriots botched the onside kick. The Falcons moved the ball to the Patriots 32 and had second and one. A holding penalty and sack pushed them back 20 yards. Ditto in the fourth quarter after the Jones catch. In both cases, the Falcons offensive line was overwhelmed by the Patriots.

3. The strip sack. A gigantic mental blunder from Freeman had nothing to do with the play call. Freeman missed his assignment, and the game turned in that moment.

If I remember correctly, Alex Mack is the one calling protections out for the o-linemen. And the backup didn't know how to do it? or wasn't good at doing it. Or something.
