Is Brady Entering his final year?

Oh for cripes sake...
The fact is that I would rather have a a slower, older Tom Brady in six years than have any other quarterback on the planet.

Primarily, because I want to win.

Those who disagree with me can dream about what it would have been like if Danny Ainge were running the Celtics in the sixties and he traded Bill Russell in 1965.

I sincerely hope not.

I like JG and see a lot of potential but wish they could have fleeced CLE for him.

I feel guys like Brady should only play for one franchise; I also feel that he is still near the top of his game and will continue to be for a few more years.

Whatever happens, it was an honor to watch Brady's career and I wish nothing but the best for him and his family.

Hell, he could go to the Jets and I'd still probably love him.

Side note: has anyone noticed the glee in the voices of the red sox guys when talking about the possibility of Brady being traded? ... CHB, McAdam etc.. I randomly catch them discussing it and its like they're talking about the Sox signing Bryce Harper. Aholes

You know, this might come as a shock to you, but it's entirely possible for a quarterback who is not Tom Brady to win Superbowls, especially with a good organization around him.

I heard this discussion on the Adam Jones show yesterday.

He made some valid points;

1. Brady will be traded before he declines
2. Pats kept JG for a reason (he's the future)
3. Manning and Montana were traded once their teams found their next guy
4. Pats can get value for Brady in 2018

I'm the first one to think "We can't ever trade Brady!" And I don't want to see him traded.

But the reality is he likely will be traded if Kraft and BB believe Jimmy G is that good.
Brady is bigger than Bird in this town by a lot. If the Celtics had ever traded Bird there would have been a revolt. Brady is the one play BB will not do this to and I think Kraft would not allow it. Notice I did not say this might not be his last year though. I think if 2017 or 2018 is his last year it is because Brady chooses to retire.\

Also, Adam Jones is an idiot.

I wonder if Brady wins another title this year he walks away. 6 Rings, 2 runs of 3 out of 4 years. Maybe its possible the whole "want to play another 5 years" things has just been to keep the questions of his retirement at a minimum. There just seems to be something else at play here. Keeping Jimmy G. McDaniels not taking any head coaching openings seriously. The Pats stacking the deck for this season, passing up on the draft. Tom letting it slip he is getting it from Super G to retire. Not saying it will happen, but it wont shock me if it did.

Unfortunately I'm becoming more and more convinced that this is probably Brady's last year as a Patriot. I hate it but I feel the writing is on the wall unless Kraft personally steps in.
Only if Brady chooses it.

We have no idea how good JG is or how good he will be in the future.
If he's coached by Bill, it's safe to say he'll be better than we thought Brady was in 2001.

He looks as in good a shape as he ever has unless he has some unforseen injury or setback I have to believe they ride with Brady.
I cant bet against the man.
Plus this is unknown waters has their ever been a QB who takes care of his body this well,?
Shows no signs of declining has a unmatched desire to play is in a league that frowns on taking shots on the QB.
It would be hilarious to watch Tom dominate the sport in his late 40s.
However he has kids a model wife tons of money and a potential young stud QB the team seems high on.
It's a great but awful position to be in.
However if they would ever trade the legend I hope they would do him the decency to make it San Fran.
Toms team and far out of our division.
No Brady in a AFC jersey ever please.
Drew in a Bills jersey still looks weird.
Anyhow if Brady plays lights out and has no injuries or signs of slowing down this season there's no guarantee what happens next season.
My hope if Tom leaves when he knows it's time.
Wins the Lombardi next season goes out on too and a Patriot.
They will never trade Brady. If Brady plays like Brady, they keep Brady. Period. Jimmy G could still suck too, give him time.

Stopped reading after this.
Adam Jones is one of the worst radio personalities I have ever heard. And it is not even his takes on things even though those usually are stupid too. He just is so un-funny when he thinks he is being funny; non-thought provoking, when he thinks he is being thought provoking; and so uninteresting, especially when he thinks he is being interesting.

He also never gets around to his points... He constantly tells you what his show is going to be in the "next hour" ... goes to commercial.. comes out and again starts talking about what he "wants to cover" goes to commercial... etc.. It is like he just keeps giving you his show's syllabus over and over.

I get the logic but I don't see it. Clearly Brady COULD decline but IMO, it's far more likely that Jimmy is a top notch insurance policy than Brady's planned successor.

There has been a lot of talk of Brady retiring if he wins 1 more this year. I don't think so. Brady can add very little to his personal legacy at this point particularly if he wins #6 there is even less to add.

That being said he would have 1 thing left he wants to prove and that is the medical/health side. He would stay in just to prove what he does works. That is his next calling in life and every year he can play at a high level from this point on adds to that argument exponentially. I don't see any way Brady retires if it in his mind proves the methods him and Alex use work.

If I had to guess what Brady might be thinking it be this "I want to stay in and win more rings but more importantly I want to do something for the health of future generations of athletes to come. I want to prove our methods work to make athletes and people in general healthier and longer lasting in doing athletic activities".

If that is what he believes (and i think it is) that is a powerful motivation and reason to stay in as long as he can. If he plays till 45 at a good level he can be like "You still saying what we are doing doesn't work? Proof is in the pudding!" and I think he wants to say that cause he believes that is how he can make the world a better place. Maybe he is right too.

I don't think "heir apparent" was part of the checklist the Pats used in selecting Garoppolo. [Or Brissett, for that matter. I'm also not convinced they were using the same checklist for Jimmy and Jacoby, but that's a matter for another post.]

They brought him in, first and foremost, to be QB2 for 2014, 2015, and 2016.

To be kind, an unintelligent response.

I'm referring to winning during the next seven years, not some abstract time after Brady retires.

Lots of people are thrilled and satisfied and completely agree with the Niners decision to keep Steve Young and dump Joe Montana. They won the Super Bowl! Once!!

I'd much rather have three or four more titles. But that's just me.

Preemptive response: No, Montana would not have nearly been as banged up in the ensuing two seasons had he stayed in San Francisco, and he would have retired later.

When you look at the writing on the wall, it's hard not to come to that conclusion.

Nobody wants to see Brady traded, but how else do you explain passing on Clevelands offer for Garoppalo?

If reports are correct, why would the Patriots not trade there backup QB for the 12th overall pick at a minimum?
Garoppalo is going to get paid next year, by either the Patriots or someone else.

It makes no sense to pass on that type of compensation unless they plan on keeping Garoppalo past this season.

I can understand the logic that Brady is 40 & we need a compatant backup, but let's not forget Brady has played every game other than his suspension over the last 8 years.

Next years draft has 3 highly rated QB's in the draft, so this was the year that Garoppalo provided "value" in the trade market.

I don't see the Patriots franchising Garoppalo to be a backup, & I also don't see him signing with the Patriots to remain a backup.

If anyone has a better explanation, I am all ears.

Adam Jones is a local guy, he's trying the felger method of troll radio. Not sure why it works for felger bit it ain't working for Adam jones.

the situations with manning and montana aren't entirely analogous to brady's situation with garoppolo.

montana missed almost 2 entire seasons because of an elbow injury before he was traded from the 49ers. manning missed an entire season because of neck surgery before the colts decided not to pick up his option.
