By many posters comments this is something the Browns should jump at.

First, why wouldn't the Brown have made that trade before the draft if they wanted Jimmy?

Second, the Pats couldn't do that anyway because they wouldn't get enough rookie cap room to sign Garrett and most of their picks. If the Pats traded for Garrett, they wouldn't get the rookie cap space for the first overall pick. So basically, the Pats would most likely have to cut their top 2-3 draft picks to get enough cap room to sign Garrett.

Browns just need to take peterman. Sir him on the bench year 1. in 2018 the QB is either Darnold if they get the first pick with Peterman as the backup, or Peterman should they decide not to go QB. Or another QB in the draft. I think that would be a solid strategy for them.

What the hell are you smoking? It doesn't even work for cap reasons. And as has been reported- the Pats already turned down a chance to trade with the Browns. They are not going to do it now after the picks have been made.

Who is to say Darnold will be any better than what they already have ? Two years ago people were jerking off about Hackenberg and then after his final college year all of that hype was gone. The reason why JG is so valuable is because he has shown certain things on NFL level that are impressive. It's unclear if he can do it consistently or how he will react to adversity but he has shown fundamental traits that can't be argued away and are not just projections as everything for Trubisky, Watson, Kizer and Mahomes is.

Ive watched every Sam darnold game. He's a top 3 talent the position in the last 20 years. It would be absolutely stunning if he hackenberged it. But I don't remember the hackenberg hype being what darnolds is. I still think the browns would have been doing the right thing by trading their first overall pick for Jimmy, if the patriots were willing...
