Mock Draft 2.0 – Patriots Go Heavier on the Defense

Steve Balestrieri

Anderson will be a Day 1 starter at the SAM linebacker position next to Dont’a Hightower. Coming from a championship football program at Alabama with Bill Belichick’s buddy Nick Saban and playing in a similar system means his learning curve will be an easy one.

Draft prognostication is interesting and at best a crap shoot, coming up with who the Pats pick at 72, 96 etc. is even more interesting. How do all those moving parts come into play???

No issue with the choices, just question how they are made.

It is hard enough to guess what the Pats will do in round 1 but in round 3 it is impossible. I have not been doing as much draft stuff cause outside of the higher picks it is hard to predict trends of who you think will be there. Also I don't see anyone the Pats drafting helping too much this year to be honest. That was probably true even if they had a first round pick though which is why they traded it away.

This mock feels like the 2nd or 3rd best option at almost every pick. It's a good mock but I'm not sure it's optimal. I don't like the Mathis pick but I do like the Conner/Jonnu picks.

Huge Mathis fan. If healthy hes a very productive NFL player.

I like Ross and have for a while. Exactly where he should go just like everyone else. Although I have JoJo in the 1st

W/out knowing the other options it could great value.

Mathis has as good of tape as anyone however obviously limited.

Great mock. I would be very happy if it fell this way.

The first three picks make perfect sense for us.

Mathis feels like too much of a high-risk/high-reward type for me, especially when there are likely to be other solid/reliable DEs available, and at a time when the Pats definitely need some reliability there.

Otherwise, a very nice mock, indeed.

Supposedly his recheck went well.

He has some risk but his tape is 1st round 100%

In the 3rd for a potential top 20-25 player is cool with me.
