This is HUGE for us! In my mind our #1 offseason signing priority was Hightower. Now he is in the fold for the next 4 years. He's the leader of our defense and brings so much to the table. Brady's window looks bright, he will have one of the top defenses in the NFL backing him up for the next 4 years AND he has a new #1 wideout in Cooks.

History watch out, Tom Brady and the Pats are on the march!

2017 = Blitz for SIX!!

Awesome!!

Agree completely. The Patriots have the best team in football and their future looks bright.

Flowers is going into year 3. Can't you not sign draft picks until end of year 3??

Wanted to follow up here - you are correct. Drafted players still on their rookie contracts cannot renegotiate a new deal until after they've completed 3 NFL seasons. Undrafted players on their rookie contracts can renegotiate after 2 NFL seasons (which is why the Pats were able to negotiate with Butler last summer).

If they offered 62 over 5 he wouldn't have left NY without signing a contract.

If only they would do a brain scan on Woody. That would be a physical that might help their garbage franchise..

The hilarious thing is they are spinning it that they didn't sign Hightower because of injury concerns but they are reportedly giving Mo Claiborrne $8m per. He has missed 35 games out of 83 games in his career, hasn't once played 16 games and the most he played was 15 games, his rookie year. Hightower has only missed 13 games in his career out of 92

I think we all know Hightower won't have a LONG NFL career. I wouldn't be surprised if he's done by the end of these four years. Ongoing knee and shoulder problems every year, it seems, a tough, physical position, in college he tore an ACL, MCL and Meniscus. I'd be shocked if "concerns" didn't show up on the physical but he's shown he can play through a lot of stuff.

I can understand Hightower concerning the Jets thanks to his physical. They're not used to footballers possessing a brain.

Eh sucks to hear. Hightower seems like a good guy and great player. Never like to hear about health issues potentially cutting a career short.

Hope he has at least another 5 or 6 years left.

Why would they make an offer before the physical? Sounds like ******** to me.

If anyone would offer a guy with an injury history $60M+ without giving him a physical first, it would probably be the Jets. But yeah, sounds like ******** to me too. Just trying to spin the fact that he signed back here for so much less than they were offering.

This might be a little OT, but it seems to me that in this off season there are a LOT of guys signing for one year deals. Is this going to be the new normal. In the past, top and even 2nd wave FA's were signing for 5 and sometimes 6 year deals to facilitate the cap consequences. This season 4 years seems to be the max length.

I'm not sure this is a good or bad thing, but I think teams are much more comfortable in playing with a core of young players on rookie contracts and everyone else basically year to year.

Just a thought.
