Just have to trade our 3rd round picks and he can skip the first few days.

BTW when we traded Collins, many wondered why since we would have just gotten a comp pick 3rd. But after the Gilmore deal, probably not. I wonder if he had some idea they would be loading up this off-season one way or another.

I love all the deals. Just...what a crazy day...

Yes, BB never trades all his picks, this screams to me we're getting a boatload of picks from Cleveland for JG, including one of their first rounders and a 2nd rounder.

Im betting this means they will either be trading away one of: Garoppolo, Butler, Gronk to recoup some first or second rounders. Hope its not Butler or Gronk but you never know, especially after these last few days lol.

After he receives a boatload of picks from Cleveland for Jimmy G.. there will be plenty of time for the draft prognosticators to get to work.

Until then there will only be dreams of what might be..

What a couple of days, usually the Pats are quiet when this starts.. this year less so, what makes BB so great is his unpredictability, as soon as we figure him out he does a 180... life is good Patsfans..

To not have a 1st round pick two consecutive years is crazy ! Do we even have any picks left in the first 3 rounds?

Look at the 2016 draft! The 3 biggest contributors (Thuney, Mitchell, Vincente) were all drafted in 3-4th round while some wanted to cut the 2nd rounder for his mistakes ...

It's said to be a very deep class so I think that even with no high picks that BB will find some gems in the latter rounds

Despite all the moves, BB still has 7 draft picks including 2 #3s. We have to
be lucky and get a couple sleepers.

I posted this in the Cooks thread; apologies for being repetitive. Picks in bold are the ones that the Patriots currently possess, until the next trade.

Recap of Patriots' 2017 draft picks after this trade:

1st round, #32 - traded away to New Orleans (Brandin Cooks)
2nd round, #64 traded away to Panthers (Kona Ealy)
3rd round, #72 - from Panthers (Ealy)
3rd round, #96
3rd round, #103
- from Browns (Jamie Collins)
4th round, #118 - from Saints(Cooks), stolen away by Goodell
4th round, #131 - from 2016 trade with Seahawks; traded to Colts (Dwayne Allen)
4th round, #137
5th round, #163
- from Broncos (AJ Derby)
5th round, #175 - traded to Browns (Barkevious Mingo)
5th round, #183 - compensatory pick
6th round, #200 - from Colts (Dwayne Allen)
6th round, #215 - traded away to Lions (Kyle Van Noy)
7th round, #239 - from Lions (Van Noy trade)
7th round, #250 - traded away to Lions (Michael Williams)

In my opinion this gives the Patriots a bit of extra incentive to trade Garoppolo - though it may not happen until Day One of the draft.

edit: added 4th/6th round pick details involved in Dwayne Allen trade.

Patriots trade for WR Brandin Cooks (NO BUTLER INVOLVED). Gave up 1st & 3rd rounder for Cooks + 4th

I still don't see the need to trade away a top-flight back up QB just for a couple more draft picks. Jimmy G is a proven quantity. Draft picks are always a crap shoot. Sure, Coach always has a pretty good handle on his picks, who he gets, but it's never a sure thing.

Does anyone here really want to trust the year's games on Jacoby if, God forbid Brady goes on to IR?

I really do believe that Jimmy G stays for at least one more year. This team, even as it stands right now, is still loaded with talent.

I think it'd be a hoot if Coach traded away all of this year's draft picks and had no reason to show up for the draft. A final, big, FU to the NYJFL Commissioner and his band of crap-flinging front office howler monkeys.

YMMV,of course, but that's how I see things.

I don't think I'd classify trading Garoppolo as a need, but it sure makes a lot of sense to do it.

It's nice to have insurance for an injury to a starter but Garoppolo is a backup. And will be for as long as Brady is around. We can get a first plus something else to add to the team now. Help the team put somewhere else. Adding a pass rusher and say a linebacker make this team downright scary.

Yes, we could franchise Garoppolo next year but then you're right back in the same situation. He's riding the pine. You're not going to pay him $18-$20 mill to sit the bench, especially since Brady may still not be ready to go.

I have no problem with Brissett being the backup. He is young and talented. He didn't shred defenses with torn thumb ligaments as a rookie in his first month in the NFL. He showed poise and has obvious physical talent. I believe that experience was beneficial to him and with the glut of weapons and defense we have, have no issues with him taking over if Brady went down.

And the possibility of trading a 5th or 6th for Brian Hoyer mid year to finish the year if Brady got hurt isn't horrible either.

I'm cool keeping Garoppolo but there is a lot of sense to trading him.

I am going to quote you and I am not going to apologies. This is completely unprecedented. The number of separate transactions in a 7 round draft I would wager without research have never been bettered.

Totally stunned at how the Patriots have manipulated the 2017 draft and it is still weeks away. We still have 7 draft choices, but only 1 of them is from our original 7.

Players who could conceivably be Week 1 starters on the Patriots roster, all under 25:

Offense: Brandin Cooks, Shaq Mason, Malcolm Mitchell, David Andrews, Joe Thuney.
Defense: Elandon Roberts, Trey Flowers, Malcom Brown, Vincent Valentine, Eric Rowe.

I'm not entirely sure BB needs to bother attending the draft.

We need another pass rusher, backup defensive tackle, linebacker, running back and backup offensive tackle.

But most important, we need to resign Hightower and Blount.

If they see one they like they should take a defensive tackle. I don't consider it a need though, I like our 4 man rotation on the squad now.
