I stumbled across this on Twitter and wondered if I should give it it's own thread... So here:

Hopkins is mentioned in this tweet. We know he was reported to have been in a proposal including Jamie Collins during the season. So it may have legs. But also best in mind all the false reporting and trolling recently. Still an interesting thing to keep watching. If there were ever any doubts, it has become pretty obvious the Pats want to bolster the WR spot, something I wouldn't have thought a pressing need.

I think it is now. Lets look...

As great as Gronk is (And his pay is low) you cant count on him for 16 games and he may start this year on PUP anyway. Allen is a nice #2 TE

Edelman (another underpaid guy) is a year older with more wear and tear. He has had injuries and at this point is grinding him down a full year with another 100 rec season a good idea? You have to start thinking about healthy playoffs WRT Gronk and JE. 2015 was a tough lesson.

Hogan is great for what he is and there is no reason to think he wont have another similar season. Also, his contract is very reasonable.

That leaves DA who is a role player/ST guy and MM who will be a up and coming 2nd year player. Both are on the team (or should be for cheaps)

Is Floyd coming back? Regardless, the team needs help here and everyone should be thrilled that they are looking at players like Hopkins and Cooks. What helps is that they have everyone here on very reasonable $

If they manage to land either one, they're not doing so to be rentals.
Long term solutions.

Personally, if I had a choice, I would go with Hopkins all the way. Hopkins other than last year was far more productive with absolute crap at QB while Cooks had Drew Brees throwing to him. Hopkins has the potential of being best in the League with Brady.

I feel exactly the same way about the rental part. All this talk of giving up Butler who still has 1 or 2 years on a rather cheap deal or giving up a 1st rounder for a player who is a free agent next year is ridiculous Unless a sign and trade type deal can be worked out.

I said the same thing in the Cooks thread!

Cooks fits our offense better and hes the game breaker we dont have.
Hopkins is smooth sneaky fast great hand hes Malcom Mitchell 4 years from now.

However Butler for Hopkins straight up yes please.
I wonder if we could get them to thrown in Braxton Miller for another pick.

Cooks is a speed guy, a younger DeSean Jackson, and maybe the 12th-15th best receiver in the league, but Hopkins is a legitimate, Larry Fitzgerald in his prime, #1A receiver. The only guys in the league I'd take over him are Julio, Brown, and maybe Evans. That's why I don't lend much credence to this, why would the Texans part with him?

Yeah, if Hopkins would ink a deal I'd part with Butler and a mid round pick. He would be special in this offense.

Regardless of who the Pats might be looking at to bolster the WR corp, I have to believe BB looks at the $6 mill Amendola salary and thinks, let's redeploy that money on a player who will impact the offense better.
Factor in:
1) NE's nice salary cap position (excess dollars to possibly make an unPatriot-like splash at WR)
2) Brady's limited window
3) The success of NE's offense in 2017 with Brady targeting WRs more so than usual due to Gronk absence/Bennett gimpyness.
4) How teams played against NE's offense in 2016
5) BB always looking toward the future
6) The fact that BB had to hold his nose and go after the Arizona binge drinker

If JG somehow gets moved, imagine how BB can set up the future of the team on both sides of the ball. New beast TE, elite pass rusher, deeper at CB.....and a QB school for his yearly midrounders. I dream

Hopkins is 6'1 215
Cooks is 5'10 189

Hopkins had 1500 yards with Hoyer/Mallet/Yates/Weeden throwing to him

I would rather have Hopkins.

That's what I'm saying.

Agreed.

I am pretty sure DA will be in camp. Will he make it out is the question. They will restructure. Not sure Floyd is the solution and he may be suspended.

The bottom line, and I hate to keep bringing this up is that our Offense was non-existent for more than 3/4 of the superbowl. If not for 20 things going right and the Falcons not taking knees and kicking a game sealing FG the narrative about this offense would be completely different.

This offense revolves around Gronk, JE and hopefully Lewis if he can get back to where he was 2 years ago. You cant have your precious TB window relay on this.

Hard to believe they'd want to get rid of Hopkins to acquire Garoppollo. Isn't the idea to give Hopkins someone to throw to him?
