Shannon Sharpe says Brady has 2 years left in a Pats uniform

Even if he loses a lot of his arm -- remember, he was successful as a dink-and-dunk checkdown quarterback for years before Moss got here and allowed him to air out his arm. If he has to go back to that style he's got good personnel for it. Get him a good powerful RB and you could easily get another 3, 4, 5 years, just running his game the same way you did when he was a rookie and hadn't proven his arm yet.

Actually once Brady's arm strength declines he wouldn't be able to do that very well either. You need a good arm to play the dink and dunk game. Those darts to the middle of the field and to the sidelines are interceptions or knockdowns if you don't have the proper zip on the ball to get it to the receiver.

I hear this from others, most notably Kellerman but for those making this "brave prediction", I'd like to know what falling off a cliff means. Kellerman was insinuating with tweets of "cliff" during the first half of the SB but of course being the principled man that he is, later deleted the tweet and qualified his prediction with a 'nobody knows when but it will happen".

Brady has set such a high standard for himself that anything less than stellar stats might be considered "falling off a cliff" but since these morons who make this prediction never actually qualify what this means, they can define it however they wish and adjust it over time.

The funny thing is that Manning fell off the cliff his last year and yet still won a Super Bowl.

Sharpe is a hater and an idiot, but there are some media people who are not haters and idiots who are making similar predictions. He's said far worse.

Peytons game deteriorated because the neck surgery zapped his arm strength. If he never had that neck problem he likely is still playing today.

Favre was beat up in his last season. And he still played at an all pro level

Knock on wood brady has been pretty healthy during his tenure. He wont drop off a cliff anythime soon.

Last I remember hearing from him, he was really, really upset that someone made fun of the Broncos mascot, Bucky.

hopefully mr sharpe goes sooner than the goat :p

Not exactly the most asinine comment. That's basically 42. Brady takes incredible care of himself, for sure, so I don't doubt he plays further. But that being said, anything can happen in two seasons and being older only amplifies the chance of a bad injury.

Serious question: did Peyton show hints of decline pre-injury?

No the Colts themselves had gotten worse though; the year he got hurt I had them at 7-9 wins. Post injury you could see him losing alot of strength after week 12 or so, not being able to make the sideline throws and such. If you watch the afcg from the year they got stomped by Seattle he is throwing up ducks against us all game, but with talib out our corners were really bad and couldn't take advantage. That was a very good Superbowl for me financially lol.

I can see Brady have 2 or 3 more seasons like this past one. If he's still doing it like this at 44, then it would be proof Brady is a cyborg.

The great thing about a hot take like this for Sharpe is he gets a lot of attention now for it, but in three years from now if he is wrong, no one will remember he said it.

Sure, Sharpe has a big mouth, and he may be right...........but honestly, I don't get why someone predicting a 40 year old quarterback to lose his game within a few years is earth shattering.

I can play this game, too. Ready, remember, you heard it here first..........

Aaron Rodgers will be in decline by the time he is 42.

I think I just sent shockwaves around the country.

a la McNabb

Aren't these 'hot takez' personalities supposed to be daring with their shockingly bold and thoroughly confident statements that go against the grain?

Making a prediction that a 40 year old professional athlete's skills will erode at some point in the future is not exactly the epitome of a cutting edge contrarian. It's a relatively safe bet akin to taking the entire field against a single team or player.

Maybe it's just a consequence of this being one of the slowest parts of the year for sports, but it seems as if the well is dry on topics for these guys to have their faux debates.

Clowns like Sharpe were making the exact same prediction 4 years ago. Even if this wild-ass guess ends up being right, it won't be because he had any clue wtf he was talking about.

He's saying that Brady's now at the same place Peyton was in 2013.... which I guess is fair if you are trying to compare Tom's career arc to another QB's.

Biggest difference.... look at how Peyton finished that season and how Tom finished this one. They are completely different players when it comes to how they finish. And right now, we're talking about how TFB will finish his career.

Who even knows what Shannon Sharpe said. He might have said Brady has two years left. He might have said I won two with the Broncos. He might have said he likes taking number two's. Who knows what this guy is saying. Why is he put on television?

Brady hasn't been a typical NFL players in any other way, not expecting him to become average in this
The average retirement age for an SB era QB in the HOF is 37.5 or thereabouts, so by playing, presumably at a high level, at 40, he'll already be beyond the average.

I'm going to make an honest prediction, that barring significant injury or a lost desire to play, that Brady will play another 6-7 years.

He doesn't need to be elite for all of them, but I think he is capable of being a good-great starter in this league in those latter years, and with enough clutch in him to make the difference in a number of games.

I get why people make these predictions. TFB has defied logic and expectation, precisely because the logic and expectation is that, at 40, his days are numbered...with small numbers.

Doesn't bother me, really, to hear these things. I expect TFB to defy the odds yet again. Time will tell.

Agree.

We're in uncharted territory, so everybody is just guessing. Peyton's arm was shot at 38/39, but Brady looked like he could have kept going for another half in Houston.

I'm just taking it year by year and enjoying the show. Suggesting that Brady will have two more years at a high level at the ages of 40 and 41, isn't exactly disrespecting him.

I can neither disagree nor agree with that, since we just don't know.

But I do wonder if he's going to want to play if he isn't "elite" any longer.

Brady has said that he'll stop playing when he "sucks." The problem is that his definition for himself of what it means to "suck" could very likely be quite different than how anyone else would define "sucking." Somehow, I don't think being a "good" starter will be enough for him. If he's a "great" starter, then he'd still be elite, at least in my book.
