Hope we keep him! lets face it, Brady is soon to be 40 years old and even that he is showing no signs of slowing down, it just happens alot faster when you are getting older.
I could see Jimmy G as our starter in 2-3 years

Only risk with that is we are basically giving up a 1st rounder. Jimmy will be a FA after next year, and if Brady's still looking good, we won't get anything out of Jimmy.
My gut says we'll still get offered more than that but yes you do that trade. That 12th pick in this draft quickly turns into pick 20/51, etc.

If we keep Jimmy G he likely walks for nothing next season.
Well, we know that he's at least bringing a 3rd round comp pick, so that's the basement if he walks away for "nothing." Drafted in the 2nd, bringing back a 3rd. Provided four solid years of being a quality backup for a reasonable cost. It definitely could be worse.

But if you're looking for more like I think we all are, there's also the possibility that Belichick could still control his rights via a tag and trade, which he's done before. It's fairly certain that they could afford to keep that salary on the books for a few weeks next spring, if that's a thought that Belichick may entertain.

What we get for Jimmy is insurance against losing Brady for part or all of a season, and insurance against watching the season tank in such a case. I'd say that having such a quality backup could be seen as worth a first-round pick. Just look around the league at how many teams are playing with fire, by not having any sort of reliable backup QB. heck, some don't even have a quality QB starter!

The issue is how they could afford to pay both QBs starting money. Even if Garoppolo somehow agreed to take middle of the road starter money on a new long term deal (he likely wouldn't), do you really think that Belichick pays him 15m a year to hold a clipboard?

The timing of Garoppolo's pact expiring next spring is what seems to be the biggest obstacle in terms of trying to keep him.

Yeah, I don't think the idea of seeing Brissett next in line to start is going to make any of us feel comfortable, at least not yet.

I would strongly consider it, but demand 4th rounder also just to shove it up Goodell's butt..

I think Garapolo is attractive to a team like Cleveland because of the low money involved, they have a year to figure out what they have.. and if he delivers can pay him in 2018...

Cleveland has had so many misses when it comes to picking a QB.... need to get this right.

I think by now the Pats "know what they have" in Brissett, remember BB several times talking about how much Brady progressed by the end of his first season..BB wants an intelligent, accurate QB....

OTOH no matter who replaces #12, will never live up to the standard set by him.. if Jimmy G is traded, we know how they feel about Brissett....

If Brady were to be out for the season, how far do you think Jimmy could take us?

They better get the farm for this guy. A first and a fourth doesn't cut it for me. I rather keep him then.

Any team that wants Garrapolo will have to give a first for him. Belichick used a second for him, he's not giving him away after three years of training him for a second round pick.

I voted yes for the first round pick.
I think Jimmy G will be a really good NFL QB, but the Pats already have TB12 and I would like the team to maximize the chances to get him ring #6 and ring #7.
Also, although I like Jimmy G, I don't see how there is any belief that the Pats will go from Brady to Jimmy G and still go to the AFC Championship Game every year.
I think it may be a combination of overestimating Jimmy G and underestimating how amazing what Brady has done is.
I have loved the Pats my whole life, but after Brady retires, the team will at least go down a little bit, no matter who the next QB is.
I am not saying the Pats are going back to Hugh Millen level performance, but I don't think the Pats next QB will win 5 SBs.

Comfortably to the playoffs. how far into the playoffs would be the question.
See that's really important though.

If you feel that Jimmy cannot take this team all the way, then what's the point in keeping him around for a playoff exit?

He's only a third year player with a game and a half of experience. I think he can get much better and certainly be a SB type QB. That's why, as much as the potential draft haul is very intriguing, I'm fine keeping him. But I'm also a fan of Brissett too but he's obviously more of a project. I'm feeling good whichever way BB plays this.

Also, because that's a lot more than most teams have.

Let's say a Bidding war starts for Jimmy G. Cleveland #12 and 4th Rounder is Great haul right now. But what if say San Fran and Chicago offers a 2nd and a 4th this year and 1st next year. What do you all think we would do???

It's a rock 'n roll swindle.
