This always perplexes me.

You see it in basketball with LeBron.
You see it in football with Tom.

Do you think that making the Super Bowl/Championship and losing is worse than not making it?

This is the only argument people make for Montana over Brady (4-0 is somehow better than 4-2)?

It sometimes feels worse at the time, to get that close and not finish. But it's not worse looking back.

Making it and losing is better than not making it at all.

No one with a brain makes the argument any more.
Losing earlier in the playoffs does not make you better.

Now even those such as Kurt Warner and Shannon Sharpe call Brady the GOAT.

Marshall Faulk showing his true stupidity, came up with this one last night: Montana won 4 first, so Brady just caught up to him with 4, so I can put him past him until he wins his 5th'.
So now even date of birth is a consideration with the morons.

Exactly. Who is a better runner: the guy who finished second to Usain Bolt, or me? I'm going to say the guy with silver.
A better anology would be the guy who finished second vs the guy who didn't make the team by losing in the Olympic qualifying race.

Marshall Faulk really is some kind of stupid.

It hurts more to get that close and miss.

It's like saying, who would you rather get dumped by?
  1. The hot (insert preference) that 30 other friends would give a (remove body part) to have a chance with?
  2. The pretty (insert preference) that 28 other friends would have loved having a chance to brag about?
  3. The cute (insert preference) that 20 other friends would have good memories about
  4. Nobody because you haven't had a date in over a year?

I think it depends on which team you root for. A Pats fan can always look back to the Butler pick etc.... whereas a Bills fan has only "Wide Right" as a memory.

They were so close...... so close.....

Depends what you mean by "worse".

I'd say losing a Super Bowl is more disappointing since you were right there... but it's not worse than not making it at all.

Oh I misread the question, we're talking about legacy.

It depends who you're talking about. If the Pats lose on Sunday nobody with a brain is going to compare Brady to say Jim Kelly who only lost one more Super Bowl. Other quarterbacks who haven't won 4 rings might though in the same situation so for them it's "better" to not lose in the Super Bowl.

I've only watched about 15 minutes of (non Katie Nolan) media coverage. I saw this and was shocked that Warner conceded that. Then Marshall had to Cris Carter it up with one of the stupidest takes I've ever seen. Even Warner looked at him like he was a special kind of idiot.

EDIT - But it is nice that people are finally wising up to this dumb 4-0 is better than 4-2 argument.

So what is Faulk gonna say on Monday?

For all other QBs, no. For Brady, yes. At least that's how the media spins it.

Elway 2-3 in SBs
Manning 2-2 in SBs (threw 1 away with a pick 6 and never showed up to the other loss when he had the "greatest offense of all time"

Yet if you listened to the mediots you'd think they were both 2-0 in the SB.

Brady is literally 2 defensive stops away from being 6-0 in the SB and going for his 7th. Brady detractors can suck my **** because no QB has come close to winning 5 SBs as Brady has to winning 6 Montana and Bradshaw never got to a 5th. Elway got to 5 but was blown out in 3 of them.

better than watching the donks or stealers in the big game.

When Eli isn't winning the Super Bowl he is missing the playoffs, which is definitely NOT better than being a Super Bowl runner up.

Am I better QB than McNabb just because McNabb is 0-1 in the big game and I'm 0-0.

There is only one way in which losing the Super Bowl is worse than not making it.

Super Bowl highlights get replayed EVERY year during the Super Bowl leadup and when your team loses it will be a constant reminder. Fortunately for us we still have many victories sprinkled in there to help ease the pain of the losses (but not all teams have that).

Emotionally, yeah, I think.

In the grand scheme of things? No. You made it that far and finished 2nd out of 32, that's pretty good. Disappointing considering how close you were, but ****ing good.
