Do You Expect Rowe to be Picked On?

I'm no football strategy connoisseur, but I was kind of hoping to see Rowe on Julio Jones with safety help. He's got the size to get physical with Jones and length to minimize the chance of losing to him on jump balls compared to Butler and Ryan. He's also got solid speed as well.

In 2014 was it Ryan who was on that tall Seattle receiver? He kept getting burned so Browner got moved to him.

I don't know really, but the saying you can't coach height is true. We may need him simply because there's nobody else with his size.
Nice try, but it was Arrington that was on "that tall WR" who had a career day that game. Literally a career day, since he didn't have a single catch before that game and I think he was out of the league the next year.

Because asking a question was a "try". Whatever the hell that's supposed to mean.

Actually, you're both right since it was Ryan who gave up the TD to Matthews with 0:06 secs left in the first half, but Arrington who was burned more consistently by him, and was eventually benched.

Agreed. Ryan has absolutely come alive this year.

I think that LR has become a legit #2 corner this year after his horrendous year, last year. Butler and Ryan are becoming an elite 1,2 punch on defense. If they can remain consistent, I'm willing to put our secondary against any offense-- Malcolm is elite, McCourty is elite, Ryan has been very good, and Chung is borderline elite (he is elite at stopping the run especially). Then you plug slot guys like Harmon and Rowe into the mix, and I'm not worried about our secondary like I was in 2013 (**** Talib) and 2015.

IMO Ryan was better last year than this year, except for his recent streak which has been his best play ever.

I expect Atlanta to attack us with stretch play runs and then a lot of wide stuff to tight ends and secondary receivers.

Here's to hoping Ryan tries for a few of those "throw em Joe" long bombs and being picked off each time.

I only remember Rowe getting burned on one play where he gave up the TD. What are the other plays you speak of where he got burned?

Getting "burned" is the new "dropped a ball".

Even if your player has only a step on you or just outjumps you for a circus catch you can see people talk about how the defender got burned. I thought that Rowe was very competitive in terms of coverage on those dropped balls by the Steelers and generally that's all you can wish for with your #2 or #3 CB.

Lets not turn every completed pass by an opponent into our defensive back getting burned the same way not every uncaught ball is a "drop".

Interesting take from Chatham on how NOT to defend the Falcons

Sounds like we gotta bully 'em right off the line. Hammer them. Discipline.

Fortunately, we're pretty good at the whole, you know, discipline thing.

I didn't realize you already posted this on the forum. Good find! Actually I made a thread about the video but didn't realize someone already posted it here.

Not true at all.

Ryan played a majority of the game. Arrington was sat mid-3rd Quarter after Seattle's opening drive in favor of Butler.

Ryan was the one who gave up the Touchdown to Matthews right before the half. He also gave up a key 3rd down catch to Lockett at the end of the game to keep Seattle's final drive alive.

It wasn't exactly Ryan's best game as a pro, but he did play.

Super Bowl XLIX - Seattle Seahawks vs. New England Patriots - February 1st, 2015 | Pro-Football-Reference.com

Ryan played 5 snaps and Arrington played 25.

Ryan gave up the touchdown to Matthews but honestly I blame the coaches. You had 6'5 or so Matthews on 5'11 Ryan. Browner should have been put on him. It was a high point jump in the air catch and Ryan didn't really have a chance playing back like he did. Bad play call and bad coaching much more than bad play on the TD. If I were to blame Ryan for anything it be the play before when he had Locket and gave up 30-35 yards which made the last play possible.

Arrington was on Matthews before the first TD and gave up 40 yards on perhaps the worst DB play of the game. He gave a virtually free release when he tried to jam Matthews then in position to make a play just did not turn around or go for the ball.

Arrington IMO looked much worse that game. People remember that high point ball against Ryan in the 2nd half but that and the play before were the only times he was noticed all game and i don't see how you can blame him for the TD. BB should have put Browner on Matthews and it was obvious. I saw the play coming when i saw the match up. They fixed it but only after they got 24 points. Then Browner shadowed Matthews and shut it down.

One thing I've gathered from this thread is that we can roll out many different coverage assignments on any given play. Which, I mean, duh, it's the Patriots. But thankfully our coach affords us the luxury of discussing gameplan with honestly not an idea of what it actually is. Could you imagine being in the Seahawks message board where you only have one main defensive look with predictable matchups?

Good God those two weeks to the SB must have been so boring. The only thing that gets me through these breaks are scheme talk lol.

Just finished listening to the latest Ringer podcast w/ Mike Lombardi at the 37:00 mark he theorizes that they will put Logan Ryan on Sanu / Butler on Gabriel / Rowe on Jones w/ help .

Very informative

That was Arrington. Ryan played maybe 1-2 snaps that game. Butler actually pasted him on the depth chart about half way through the year so he rarely saw the field. That is not an insult to Ryan though.
Respect. This is not true. Butler never passed Ryan on the depth chart that season. Ryan also played a majority of the first half of the SB. Butler only played about 18 snaps in the SB because Ryan and Arrington both struggled.

Both Ryan and Arrington had trouble to the taller receiver in that game, though on of the Arrington catches was CLEARLY OPI.

Sorry to say Ryan played only 5 snaps in the super bowl. So your statement he played the majority is not factually true. However I was mistaken also. For some reason i recall Ryan playing less and Butler playing more as the year went on but there was not really a clear shift and Butler didn't pass Ryan on the depth chart (at least snaps don't indicate so).

Ryan and Arrington played the complete first half. Butler did not see the field in the SB until the second half. That was the point I tried to make regarding the SB.

I had no clue Seattle's defense was so inept in that game. Was that really the Seahawks? Damn.

No as people have pointed out it was Arrington. But if you watch the game, you can see the Mathews pushed off on every catch. Those PI calls will not be made in the SB and the DB has to be able to fight through that.
