Guregian: If Pats win SB 51, is Gronk expendable?

Gronk only gets paid under 10 million a year. Gronk is arguably the best offensive non-QB player in the NFL. And he only gets paid under 10 million a year.

He also usually doesn't play a full season.

Injuries can be unpredictable. The whole offseason, people were complaining that Edelman was 30 and could not play 16 games. Gronk obviously has issues, but I do not think the Pats think he is done by any stretch, and are looking forward to the return of his very large talent.

No way do you give up a once-in-a-generation talent like Gronk. There is nothing you could get in a trade that would replace what he brings to the team in however many games he is available.

No because, should he come back healthy, he's a very affordable asset to have and is a game changer. If he doesn't come back the same, the Pats can then move on.

this is another very common narrative i am hearing even here in the bay area radio. I dont think BB's decision of whether gronk is expendable depends on winning the superbowl .Its more about whether he thinks he wants the player + his future health.

He also usually doesn't play a full season.

Correct, but he's getting paid less than 10 million. If he was reliable for us, he should be the highest paid offensive skill player in the NYJFL*. So he's being paid accordingly. No way we should drop him ever.

Gronk is still in his prime, I'd give him another 3 years and if he starts declining then only then I'd consider trading him for a kings ransom. Right now we need Gronk to be there because he is a such a leader on that offense next to Brady when it comes down to work ethics he is a beast and works hard.
