OT: Mary Tyler Moore passed away... a SB connection, too...

Age 80... may God rest and keep her immortal soul. Loved her show in the 70's... and they did an episode that, I believe, mentioned and revolved around the Super Bowl for the first time in a sitcom (Pitt versus MN, and the show was set in MN). It was about betting... called "The System". Funny as hell, and definitely worth 25 minutes of your time if you are so inclined.



Thanks, Mary. You took quite a few Saturday evenings of my youth...

Ah, the good ol days!

I wish kids today had what we had as children...and what we had was less and more at the same time.

We mostly had one tv with 3-4 stations, but no PC's, tablets, cell phones, etc.. What we did have was tons of outside playing with kids everywhere.

We learned to fight and make up, build friendships and socialize face to face. we often just sat and talked about Mighty Mouse, superman or Lost in Space.

And Saturday mornings were the balls with marathon sessions of the 3 Stooges and Bugs Bunny.

Life was less virtual and more reality based

One day when the glass ceiling crashes into a million pieces, MTM will get deserved credit for it...one of the icons of our now-old generation who could actually be looked up to, admired and emulated. RIP

Had such a crush on her when I was a young man. Sigh.

Also on my "Hit List" of shows I watched that are still, IMHO, funny today, were Taxi, WKRP in Cinncinnati, and the Bob Newhart Show.

And every Saturday night was The Carol Burnett Show.

I know it sounds strange, but that was a different time, and to a little kid growing up in the 70's Mary, Ted, Murrrrrrr, Sue Anne, Rhoda and Mr. Grant all felt like members of our family......along with Bob and Emily Hartley, Carol Burnett.....Edith Bunker, Mike and Gloria Stivic, George, Weezie and Lionel......and of course the curmudgeonly - Uncle Archie. Damn all those shows were on the very same night on CBS for at least a couple of years IIRC - talk about a Murderers Row!

I know Mary had been in very ill health for a couple of years and it probably is a blessing for her to be "rid of this mortal coil", but it is a real sad day for so many of us.
