Houston Texans at New England Patriots: Team Stats, Odds & More

John Morgan

The Patriots will methodically do what they need to do to win, while also minimizing opportunities for Houston to come away with an upset victory. Houston has had issues this season with their special teams coverage. That could set the Patriots up with a

Early Sunday night lines:
  • Chiefs favored by 1 vs Steelers
  • Cowboys favored by 4 vs Packers
  • Falcons favored by 4½ vs Seahawks
  • Patriots favored by 16 vs Texans

The Patriots have a ridiculous cover rate this year. I don't bet but I wouldn't touch this if I did. Too many points but the way the Patriots cover I wouldn't take the points either.

You would never know it based on the Boston sports media (with the exception of Price, Curran & Howe), but the Patriots have over achieved this year: the Pats are 13-3 against the spread.

Vegas keeps increasing the line in an attempt to get a relatively equal proportion of money on both sides but the Pats keep covering.

The Patriots have a +191 point differential. That's an average of nearly +12 points per game. Only two other teams are more than +78, which is less than plus 5 points per game. Dallas is far behind with the second most at just over +7 per game.

Sounds about right. All the games in the Divisional round are great except the Pats vs Texans. Unless you just want to see a team kick the living **** out of another team.

The postseason has not produced a high rate of covers for Belichick, Brady, and the Patriots.

--As a QB, he's only covered 12/28 times.

--The team has played 13 games as a top seed, and yet they've only covered 4 of those times.

--When favored by 10 or more, the team has covered 1/4 times.

--Including the first round AND super bowl byes, the Patriots have come off of a postseason bye a total of 20 times. They've covered only 8 of those times.
