17 years ago today, Belichick told that joke of an organization to pound sand and he became the coach of the New England Patriots..

16 straight winning seasons.
4 Starting Quarterbacks
14 Play-off appearances
14 AFC East Titles
10 trips to the AFC Championships
6 Trips to the SB
4 SB Wins

The Rams Player was right.. That night, a dynasty was born.. The Patriots Dynasty..

The 6 states of New England should create a regional holiday....BB Day....maybe combine it with MLK Day ....create a 4 day weekend.

Maybe just 5 states....Fu*% Connecticut ...those G Men loving traitors

On another note, do you guys still consider us in the dynasty now? I consider 2010-now a new era seperate from the 3 outta 4 years.

That was Ricky Proehl who said that.

The greatest 19 letters ever scribbled...

Other than Bill wanting to have real control, why did he resign in such a hilarious, yet shocking manner? Had something happened that just made him pick up a napkin?

...and with every Super Bowl title add a day.

No doubt a great day in Patriots history. And eternal gratitude to Bob Kraft for bringing him to New England, whatever we might feel about Kraft's actions during Deflategate.

But, is this really all that dark a day for the Jets?

Doesn't history suggest that the Jets would have figured out how to subvert Belichick and drive him out of town in a couple of years anyway?

For starters, would he have been given the clout to select Brady before the sixth round? Or isn't it much more likely that some nameless idiot in the Jets scouting organization would have been able to go over his head to force the selection of another one of the "Brady Six?"

He didn't want to be Parcell's puppet.

No and I'm probably being a hard ass about it.

Dynasties are stretches of domination.

I also qualify it as needing to win 3 of 4 titles in a span.

Examples are..

Late 40s-early 60s Yankees
Canadians of 50s-60s then again in the 70s
60s Celtics
1996-2001 Yankees
1980-83 Islanders
84-88 Oilers
74-79 Steelers
60s Packers
90s Bulls

I'm still on the fence w 80s 49ers.
80s Celtics were not.
80s Lakers were.

01-04 Pats fall into that category.

'10-16- while kick-ass do not.

It led to their biggest rivals having the success listed in the opening post!!!

It most certainly is a dark day in jest history!!

That definition is too harsh. For one thing, it pretty much entirely rules out modern sports which are /designed/ to promote parity. For another, it makes it almost impossible to put together a long enough run to really fit the term 'dynasty'. A dynasty is not 4 or 5 years. What /should/ be instructive is performance versus the rest of the league you're playing in during the time your playing. Given the realities of the salary cap era, the Patriots performance is so far beyond what ANY other team in the league has been able to do during the same period that the only term that does it justice is dynasty.

I would say that, prior to that day, the Dolphins were the Pats biggest rivals.. But that's just my opinion.

Does anyone know what happened to thst napkin?

It really belongs in Canton.
Canton? Its bigger than Canton. Put it in Canton, but also in the Smithsonian.
A truly great day in American History.

At this moment, we do not have any dynasties in professional sports for the reasons you cite.

Sorry I disagree. Just because times are different does not mean the standards should be lowered.

Winning one Super Bowl over 12 years is not a dynasty.

A dynasty is when you win championships again and again and there is a clear pattern of winning championships with regularity.

Era of Excellence is a better term to describe 05-16 Patriots.[/QUOTE]
