Classic, he should does love to screw with these guys.

He certainly could to some extent like he's done in the finale few times like in 2010 and 2014.He is not screwing with anybody. NFL is not college where you can filled three different offenses. How can he rest his whole starters? Who sits and who plays? Can he fill an O-line with players who don't play?
I actually think it's more the latter than the former, in fact. I really think Bill feels what he is saying is truth. Everyone must play and play well when needed. There is no question he is screwing with the press but he is also sending a message to the team.

These guys don't seem to understand that. even if you rest "some" guys. most of your starters are going to have to play. No HC wants to go to, say, Nate Solder, and say, " Nate, Brady, Edelman, Bennett and Blount are going to get the day off on Sunday, but you're JUST an offensive lineman, so you have to play". There just aren't enough players on a roster to put in 2 full 2nd teams.

You see the key thing here is that you DON'T get to have the kind of locker room the Pats have, by telling one guy that another guy is more important than they are.....even if it's true. It's not so much "resting starters" as it is resting the absolute key pieces. Guys like Brady, Butler, Hightower, Edelman, maybe Bennett would get rest - guys like White, Sheard, Hogan probably don't.

Agreed Ken, I would expect everyone would play some series, but the most important cogs would be the ones to sit first. You see it in preseason, even. Butler was often one of the very first to leave the game. You see the key thing here is that you DON'T get to have the kind of locker room the Pats have, by telling one guy that another guy is more important than they are.....even if it's true.
This is a big reason why I hope Waddle is active for this game. If things are going according to plan (whatever that may be), need Flemming, Karras, and Waddle out there. Can he fill an O-line with players who don't play?

To some degree, he had Gronk as a healthy scratch for the finale in 2014. I think Edelman too...I actually think it's more the latter than the former, in fact. I really think Bill feels what he is saying is truth. Everyone must play and play well when needed.
Froob, I know and I understand. There are obviously guys on a team who will always be more dispensable and indispensable than other guys. Obviously, Tom is the "starter," while Jimmy G is the "back up." But the point is Jimmy G is important to the team overall just like, not just as, Tom Brady is important to the team. Tom is the greatest of all time. Gronk is the most dominant player in the league. Gronk and Edelman are injury prone players, and to your point about Jules, he was coming off of a few missed games at the time, if memory serves. I think that's what BB is saying, while still jabbing at the media a bit.To some degree, he had Gronk as a healthy scratch for the finale in 2014. I think Edelman too...
