This may be an unpopular post, but is a situation worth discussing. If Derek Carr is done for the season, would it be worth the Patriots resting some starters next week. Here's the logic (or stupidity haha): if the Patriots play all out against a good Miami pass rush, they risk injury to significant players. The downside of this approach is potentially losing the #1. However, the odds of the Raiders winning in Denver just took a dip. Moreover, the Raiders as #1 without Carr will likely lose to the team visiting them; even if Oakland and New England both win in the divisional round, us travelling to Oakland without Carr is not insurmountable. Last year, travelling to Denver was a disaster, but let's not take that scenario and apply it to this year which is very different.

The question is whether we allow a hobbled Raiders team to have a chance at the #1 if it means keeping our top guys healthy. I'm a fan of rolling the dice with Jimmy G. next week, but realize most are probably against this approach due to last year's results. However, let's not base our approach on one season's failure - I'd like this team to be intact heading into the postseason against a weak conference with Carr out.

Is Carr injured too? I don't like to support a guy being injured, but if he is I don't see any situation we don't make the Superbowl..

Pats should definitely rest players next week because Oakland is not a threat and Miami isn't making past wild card.

He got a really bad injury towards the end of today's game. If he is indeed done for the year, I'd say Kansas City is the biggest threat or, oddly enough, the Miami Dolphins.

Nothing wrong with this post. Without Carr no way Oakland beats KC really. I hope he is okay though. The NFL is so much better with good QBs and losing 2 good ones that might be (or might have been) in the playoffs sucks.

Pittsburgh? Ben, Brown, Bell?

I don't understand this logic. What if Denver decides to lay down against Oakland? If we have learned anything from last year is that we play until we get that 1 seed.

Pittsburgh could surprise.
I wont take a team that can pass and run the ball very well for granted.

If pitt somehow misses the playoffs... Then IDK. KC be tough probably but i would not be worried too much.

All I will say is this: there is no way a healthy Brady will not start. Even if for only a few series.

He's less than 60 passing yards away from passing Marino for 4th place all time. We need to at least give him that, don't we?

I get wanting to learn from last year's mistakes. However, if we get injured this upcoming week and it costs us in the postseason, does the new logic become resting players towards the end of seasons? I am simply arguing for taking things as a case by case basis.

Somebody's clearing the way ..
Good recovery to Carr.

Pittsburgh is a potential threat, but I'd like to see if they even make it - my money is on the Ravens beating them in the division.

There is no way to tell when one of our guys will get injured. Belichick played "not to get injured" last year against Miami and it bit us.
