TNF Official Game Thread: Giants (*10-4) at Eagles (5-9)

I didn't watch or follow this game, but just read about the results on PFT. I hope all that saw this game understand why I would have creamed my pants to get this team in the superbowl against the Pats. We would have rolled them and wipe out the ghosts of those 2 superbowl loses. It would be a more cathartic win than any other opponent.

They still will likely make the playoffs, but Dallas and Seattle loom like the 2 Superbowl contenders in the NFC

Why do people here insist on acting as if every Non-Patriots team they watch on TV sucks, especially if they lose a game? It's stupid, and everyone should know better.

As for the "fear" issue, you "fear" the Giants for the same reason that you "fear" the Ravens. You "fear" them because you know what the QBs are capable of doing to the Patriots when they get hot and/ or a horseshoe up their asses.

??
A huge assumption that I based this on one game and, as well, I don't believe and didn't suggest they suck.
First, I posted last week, prior to this game, in the Giants SB III thread I'd like to see the Giants v Patriots. One reason I did so is because I strongly believe the result would be favorable.

The Giants don't "suck" but what I have seen is a team squeaking by repeatedly - I don't recall a dominating performance going back many weeks (to be fair there could have been one that I didn't catch info on). While any PO opponent can and does present concern because they have demonstrated the ability to win with enough frequency as well as the result is always unknown, if we are talking preferable matchups (as I stated and was speaking of in my post) then we can either go against some NFC teams that have demonstrated dominating performances or we can go against the Giants. A Giants team we should apparently fear because of a half and full decade ago (it wouldn't be based on last night or their overall level of 'fearful' play for many weeks).

There are five, and only five, NFL teams that come into this week with 10 wins or more. The Giants are one of those five. And that 10 win Giants team is the only team in the NFL that's found a way to beat the Cowboys this year.

Oh damn, just saw the score, and I was going to bet on the Eagles too.

The thing with Eli is we tend to struggle against QB's who go deep a lot, but with Eli we struggle when he goes derp a lot...

I mean seriously, how on earth did we lose TWO Superbowls to this guy?!?!

He has also led the league in interceptions 3 times and might make it 4 this year but football is a team game. In 07 it was all about the Giants defense and a couple lucky plays. In 2011, the pats should have won that game but I remember the defense being really bad the majority of the season. Both losses used to bother me until the 2014 Super Bowl. That SB felt even better than 01 for me. I feel pretty lucky that the pats have won 4 because all 4 came down to the last possession and 3 of them basically came down to the last play. I couldn't imagine being the Bills and losing 4 Super Bowls in a row. The best part is the Patriots run isn't over yet. Getting another bye this year and going into the offseason with the most cap space BB has ever had. I'm enjoying every second of this run because I remember the days of getting excited just because the Pats got a Monday night game.

Well sometimes you need a little bit of luck. Let's not forget the drop interception and the welker drop. Ughhhhh

...and the sabotage of the Pats the morning of SB 42 by Tomase. And the refs not calling Woods "down by contact" after he recovered a fumble on the ground. And the Giants OL getting away with blatant holding on the Tyree play well after they should have blown him as being "in the grasp" (not to mention the helmet catch itself). And the rage-inducing "intentional grounding call" in SB 46 along with three fumbles all recovered by the Giants, the Manningham miracle catch, Gronk on a hobbled ankle.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Please tell me there is no chance of Manning being elected into the HOF!

He'll get in 100%, and probably 1st ballot. Michael Irvin was comparing Eli and Ben, same draft class (Rivers, too), before the Steelers-Giants game. Talking about HOF chances, they all agreed that both would get in. When it came to 1st ballot, Marshall Faulk balked, but Irvin laughed and said that Eli's dad would make sure of it. Alluded to Archie landing Eli in New York, too.

It was an amazing segment, a bald-faced admission of inside-football shenanigans.

Roger Goodell says "Challenge accepted."

I want no part in a Giants x Pats III, F that, I watched the game yesterday and if Eli were not in such a bad night he would have won the game, in that last drive I was pretty sure if it was against us he would found someone in the endzone.

F that, if the SB is Pats x Giants I won't watch due to fear of a cardiac event.

Don't worry because the Giants aren't making the SB. If they got one of the byes, they would have a chance but that is impossible for them now. Winning 3 road games in a row doesn't seem likely to happen since they struggle on the road with a 3-4 record.

Isn't winning all road games how they won their last two?

I'd prefer if they had a bye

You are correct about the last two but do you think that means they are automatically going to win 3 road games in a row this year?

Its amazing how many Pats fans I talk to that are more concerned about the Giants than the Patriots getting the 1 seed. We need to win out or have Oakland lose this weekend. That's the most important thing I'm worried about for the pats. If they are able to make the super bowl, I'll be pumped at the chance to see #5 so I wouldn't care who they played. I think it's going to be really tough to even make the SB. Hope it happens!

Correct. Giants are irrelevant at this stage. Not sure why we would be afraid of them anyway.

Green Bay is another team I would watch out for - they are getting hot at the right time and have the right QB to beat Dallas or Seattle.

Edit: I am hoping GB loses this weekend. I would rather face Dallas or even Seattle. Rodgers has a ton of weapons and a good o-line.

The Giants (Fact) and Green Bay (conjecture) are dangerous SB opponents because the NYFL LOVES the Giants and will bend rules for them and alternatively they like the narrative of St Aaron as the patron saint of the league.

Agreed. He's hot and cold. Elite QBs are consistent and win games year in and year out.
To add elite QB's just aren't as sloppy with the ball as this guy is. Him and Rivers are good QB's but the one thing they don't do well is protect the ball. They force and make bad throws way to much to be considered elite.
