Now now, don't let the win + Jones let you forget that Hochuli made one of the most ****ing absurdly dumb calls ever on that "forward progress" on a strip sack of a QB who was in the pocket.

He is just so awful. It's a travesty that a certain ref being in a game is a cause of concern.

Was that his call, or a member of his crew calling it that he's just communicating?

I think it is common knowledge by all football fans that Ed Hochuli never met a microphone he did not want to verbally make out with. He is the celebrity ref of the NFL.

It was wrong but there were dumber calls this week.

If I'm not mistaken, one of the refs blew the whistle and killed the play. Once a play is stopped you can't overturn whatever happens after the whistle. It's as if the play never occurred.

The question is which one of the red had an easy trigger on the whistle and why did he pull that trigger before Flacco even hit the ground.

I think he did okay tonight ...
For the most part they let the players play the game ... we had 5 penalties called on us ... not bad.

Not sure what the concrete evidence was to overturn McCourty's yards after interception either. Just bad.
They did do a similar call that went the pats way granted that was a matter of four yards

His finger brushed his arm. It's just noticeable when you slow the film down. A touch is a touch no matter how slight.

The "forward progress" call was just absurd. I don't see how a guy fading back in the pocket until he's strip sacked had any forward progress. He never tucked the ball away and became a runner. I'm with BB on letting every play be reviewable because why isn't that particular play reviewable? There's no reason why it shouldn't be. Man, that call really bugged the hell out of me.

Absolutely agree. I actually think that this was quite a fairly called game, especially considering it was Pats/Ravens. Could be a lot worse, like have a QB, of a certain team, in a certain SB game, be surely and absolutely "in the grasp" and escape to throw a circus catch that lost another team a Lombardi. THOSE refs should absolutely have blown the play dead, but decided to "let the boys play" and cost that certain other team a perfect season. Not that I'm stilled pissed off or something.

That actually is not quite right. It happened this year with a turnover after a whistle and it came back to us even though they wrongly blew the whistle. I can't remember which game...

I agree that call was ********, but the Ravens got some bad calls too, some of those false starts were a little weird (the one on Flacco was questionable I thought). We got a phantom hold. It ultimately probably all evened out.

It's Hochuli's call. As the Ref, his responsibility during the play is the QB.

HUH?? The false starts were legit, including Flacco's.

What phantom hold call?

I think the poster is referring to the holding call on Thuney.

His hands were every so slightly on the outside of Williams' pads but it was a bit on the ticky-tack side.

how can you tell a touch?..Seriously, you can't....a camera angle might make it look like a touch, but there is no way it can 100% prove there was a touch unless you can clearly see the object being touched move somehow. No way that can be overturned.

The fumble on the sack was one beyond bad..if the ball had actually hit the ground, then there would have been no doubt..but just because he came up with the ball, it somehow confused the refs. Having said that, you still can't call forward progress on that...maybe down by contact, then have it reviewed to get the call right. When in doubt, make a call that can be reviewed to get it right.

There was a bad hold called against us, one of those borderline ones that shouldn't have been called, when Gruden said he didn't see it. That false start on flacco seemed strange I know technically it can be called but it's like travelling in bball it hardly ever is...seemed ticky- tack.

The real bad call wasn't a penalty but calling flacco down ...

Saying that "we got a phantom hold call" and following it up with "it evened out in the end" makes it sound like it was a bad call against Baltimore.

I said during the game thread Hochuli seems to have become an NFL stooge. He had 3 bad calls in the first half.

Calling back the strip sack. The call of McCourty down by contact (you can't be down if you don't have control of the ball). The Unsportsmanlike on Butler when he's the one who got elbowed in the helmet by Smith.
